  • Genetic studies among seven endogamous populations of the Koshi Zone, Bihar (India)

    B N Pandey, P K L Das et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2003

The distribution of AB0 and Rhesus blood groups, PTC taste sensitivity and colour blindness was studied among seven endogamous populations (Tharu, Mushar, Santal, Dhobi, Julaha, Kulhaiya and Karan Kayastha) in the Koshi Zone of Bihar (India). The phenotype and allele frequencies of the four gene loci (AB0, RH, PTC and colour blindness) show considerable differences between these populations. The measurement of genetic distances revealed, that the…

  • Genetic Variation in Some Endogamous Population Groups of North Bihar

    Open Access•B N Pandey, P K L Das et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1995

Based on four genetic systems (ABO and Rh blood group, PTC taste sensitivity and colour blindness), gene diversity and genetic distances have been estimated among six endogamous population group of Bihar, viz, the Brahmin, Mushar, Oraon, Kharwar, Kayastha and Muslim of northern Bihar. A small fraction of gene diversity accounts for the inter-population genetic variation, whereas the major portion of the tital diversity is due to intra-population …

  • Genetic Studies in Five Endogamous Populations of North Bihar

    Open Access•B N Pandey, P K L Das et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1994

Five caste populations (Banu, Bhumihar, Dusadh, Kurmi and Chamar) from Pumia zone of North Bihar were studied for the ABO Wood groups, the Rh blood groups, PTC tasting ability and red-green colour blindness. All five castes have high frequency of the B group. It has keen concluded that correlation between ethnic relationship and serological similarities is not close Genetic distance analysis showed the existence of a clear distance pattern. Bania…

  • Effects of Consanguinity on Blood Groups and Intelligence Quotient Among Muslim Children of Purnia, Bihar

    Open Access•B N Pandey, A K Jha et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1994•Cited by: 1

Consanguineous marriages are common in Muslims. Consanguinity leads to homozygous. A survey was made to assess the effects of consanguinity on the ABO blood groups and I.Q. in Muslims of Purnia, Bihar, A non-consanguineous population served as control. A trend of B> A> O> AB was observed-in non-consanguineous and O> B> A> AB in consanguineous populations, respectively. The alteration of phenotype: distribution indicated a trend of selection for t…
