A door-to-door survey by recall method was carried out among Korwas of Gumla district to know their socio-ecology and nutritional status. The Korwas are financially crippled, half fed, illiterate and socially deprived people. Due to poor nutritional status and drinking water quality they are victim of a large nu mber of nutritional and waterborne diseases. The study shows that a number of variables like housing pattern, environment sanitation, nutritional status and education are the major factors responsible for poor health and infant mortality
