Japanese Export Porcelain
The Ashmolean Museum's collection of Japanese export porcelain is perhaps the most comprehensive collection in the West. The present catalogue includes only the export wares, the Arita, Ko-Imari and Kakiemon porcelains of the years between about 1660 and 1740, the peak period of the trade. More than 400 pieces are included in the catalogue, each illustrated - some more than once - in colour, with some comparative material. This is probably the la…

Lever as a Collector of Chinese Porcelain
Willium Lezler collected Chinese porcelain from about about 1894 until 1924. His tastes nerer dereloped beuyond those wares fashionable in the first part of this time, the blue-and-white and the enamelled porcelain of the Kangxi period. Within this relatively narrow range, Lever brought fine examples, usually through dealers, but rarely was prepared to pay for the very best. A Multivariate Metrical Study of Ceramics Made by Three Potters
The probability that similarly shaped ceramics by different potters will show individual characteristics is tested on control samples by multivariate metrical analysis and demonstrated. The method of analysis could profitably be applied to kiln‐site material of any culture where it might give some estimate of the size of the workshop involved, or to large samples of any “identical’ hand‐made ceramicS
Japanese Export Art of the Edo Period and its Influence on European Art
The opening up of Japan to the west and the consequent influences of the west and of Japan upon each other are remarkable for many reasons, not least of which is the interchange of styles and techniques of the arts and crafts one to the other. The export of Japanese works of art, and the influence upon European artistic production during the Meiji period (though often of works produced during the Edo period) have all but obscured the remarkable e…
