  • The Craft of Teaching. Cultivating Uncertainty and Moving in Playfulness as Pedagogical Strategy

    Open Access•Lydia Maria Arantes, Lydia Arantes•ARTICLE•Teaching Anthropology•2024

I have long tried to move away from teaching as “passing on knowledge” and moved towards practicing teaching as co-creating knowledge. I have come to regard teaching as a joint act of exploration, also taking into account students’ everyday life experiences. In the last academic year, I decided to expand my pedagogy by including playfulness. This required openness and vulnerability on behalf of me as the person developing the course as well as a …

  • Who knows? A Speculative Fabulation about Knowledge Politics at University and Ecological Subjectivities

    C Gatt, Lydia Maria Arantes•ARTICLE•Cadernos de arte e antropologia•2024

Imagine yourself in an office in a department of anthropology, moving the furniture out of the way so that you can move more freely. With hesitation and excitement the silence oozing out of the walls and floors is split by the call of an oboe and response of a voice. At first this feels like a disruption of the acoustic and kinetic regime. But then, surprise! This place affords more ways of attending, searching, thinking than is commonly expected…

  • Learning to Dwell with Micro-Organisms

    Open Access•Lydia Maria Arantes•ARTICLE•Anthropology in Action•2020

In this article, I enquire in which ways the corona-induced lockdown in Austria has reshaped intimacy in our household by scrutinising my husband’s sourdough bread-making journey. As physical distancing has thrown us back onto ourselves, my field of research is equivalent to that which is immediately available – our everyday life within the confines of domestic space, at times expanded via digital technologies. My elaborations are based on my (re…

  • Unraveling Knitting

    Lydia Maria Arantes•ARTICLE•Journal of American Folklore•2020•Cited by: 3•References: 13

In this article, I draw attention to form creation in knitting, and by doing so, I challenge Tim Ingold's favoring of the morphogenetic over the hylomorphic model. Drawing on research on knitting in Austria, I further argue that in addition to following the materials-which Ingold rightfully advocates for-it is worthwhile to also follow the property of materials
