Open Access•Pu Peng, Zhangming Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Behavioral Addictions•2025

  • Relationship between parental smoking and adolescent smoking

Open Access•Yi Liu, Ling Li et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Our findings suggested smoking prevention in adolescents can be done differently for different genders. Besides, results indicated resilience was important in preventing adolescent smoking. Furthermore, parents quitting smoking can play an important role in preventing adolescent smoking to a certain extent

  • Abnormal Brain Network Interaction Associated With Positive Symptoms in Drug-Naive Patients With First-Episode Schizophrenia

Open Access•Yuan Liu, Liu Yuan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Positive symptoms are marked features of schizophrenia, and emerging evidence has suggested that abnormalities of the brain network underlying these symptoms may play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of the disease. We constructed two brain functional networks based on the positive and negative correlations between positive symptom scores and brain connectivity in drug-naive patients with first-episode schizophrenia (FES, n = 45) by using a …

  • IL-17 and TNF-β

Open Access•Lijun Ouyang, David Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

In conclusion, our findings suggest that the immuno-inflammatory activation level is increased in the early stage of psychosis before psychotic conversion and the Drug-naïve FES. IL-1β and TNF-α are the representatives of the specific biomarkers for UHR and FES, respectively. IL-17 and TNF-β may be the potential selective predictive biomarkers for future transition in UHR individuals

  • Short-chain fatty acids in patients with schizophrenia and ultra-high risk population

Open Access•Huiqing Peng, Lijun Ouyang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

Our study suggests that alterations in concentrations of SCFAs may be associated with the pathogenesis and the cognitive impairment of schizophrenia. Further researches are warranted to explore this association. The clinical implications of our findings were discussed

  • The role of microbiota in autism spectrum disorder

Open Access•Xiaoling Lin, Runjin Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

The United States dominants the research in this field, which focuses on the alterations of gut microbiota composition and its metabolites, among which the roles of the genus Clostridium and metabolites of short-chain fatty acids, especially propionic acid, are priorities. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a promising complementary therapy. In general, research in this area is sparse, but it still has great research prospects

  • How does a team’s virtuality impact knowledge transfer effectiveness among its members

Xiaogang Chen, Darrell Carpenter et al.•ARTICLE•Behaviour and Information…•2021

A thorough understanding of how organisational teams behave effectively in the ever increasingly virtual setting has become integral to team success. One such vital team behaviour is the transfer of knowledge among team members (i.e. knowledge transfer). Two divergent views of team virtuality and its impact on knowledge transfer effectiveness have been presented in the literature. Our approach to addressing this research gap is to identify the me…

  • A Case Report of Wernicke's Encephalopathy Associated With Schizophrenia

Open Access•Jingqi He, Jinguang Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Introduction: Wernicke's encephalopathy (WE) is a severe neurological syndrome often associated with alcoholism. Clinicians tend to ignore WE in other non-alcoholic clinical settings related to malnutrition and thiamine deficiency, resulting in delayed diagnosis. The diagnosis becomes more difficult when WE is secondary to psychiatric illnesses as symptoms can be masked by the primary disease. Case Presentation: We present a case of a 56-year-old…

  • Frequency-Specific Changes in the Fractional Amplitude of the Low-Frequency Fluctuations in the Default Mode Network in Medication-Free Patients With Bipolar II Depression

Open Access•Jun Zhou, Xiaoqian Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Objective: This study aimed to examine the treatment-related changes of the fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF) in the default mode network (DMN) across different bands after the medication-free patients with bipolar II depression received a 16-week treatment of escitalopram and lithium. Methods: A total of 23 medication-free patients with bipolar II depression and 29 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. We evaluated the …

  • Circulating Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor, Antioxidant Enzymes Activities, and Mitochondrial DNA in Bipolar Disorder

Open Access•Dong Wang, Hong Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

The findings coincide with our hypothesis that abnormal antioxidant enzymes, mtDNAcn, and peripheral BDNF may be involved in the course of BD. There were significant correlations between peripheral BDNF, antioxidant enzyme activities and mtDNAcn, suggesting that oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, and BDNF may influence each other in BD

  • Anterior Cingulate Cortex Glutamate Levels Are Related to Response to Initial Antipsychotic Treatment in Drug-Naive First-Episode Schizophrenia Patients

Open Access•Jinguang Li, Honghong Ren et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

The glutamatergic system has previously been shown to be involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and the mechanisms of action of antipsychotic treatment. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between the levels of glutamate (Glu) or Glu/total creatine (Glu/Cr+PCr) in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and psychiatric symptoms as well as the response to antipsychotic treatment. We performed proton magnetic resonance spe…

  • Sleep quality in cigarette smokers and nonsmokers

Open Access•Yanhui Liao, Liqin Xie et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

Sleep disturbances were more prevalent among cigarette smokers than nonsmokers. Smokers also varied in sleep problems on the basis of the characteristics of their smoking. Smokers should be informed about the link between cigarette smoking and poor sleep quality, and should be advised that one of several important health benefits from smoking cessation could be the improvement of sleep quality. Sleep therapy should be recommended as an adjunctive…

  • Comt, 5-HTR2A, and SLC6A4 mRNA Expressions in First-Episode Antipsychotic-Naïve Schizophrenia and Association With Treatment Outcomes

Open Access•Zongchang Li, Ying He et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2018

Background: Dopaminergic and serotonergic systems play crucial roles in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and modulate response to antipsychotic treatment. However, previous studies of dopaminergic and serotonergic genes expression are sparse, and their results have been inconsistent. In this longitudinal study, we aim to investigate the expressions of Catechol-O-methyltransferase ( COMT ), serotonin 2A receptor ( 5-HTR2A ), and serotonin tran…

  • A Discussion on the Emergence and Development of Ancient Chinese Artificial Barium Copper Silicate Pigments from Simulation Experiments
