Jenkins Type a Scores in the Relation of Stress and Premenstrual Symptoms
To evaluate the manner in which the Type A scores are associated with the relationship between stress and premenstrual symptoms, 102 college women were administered the College Life Experiences Survey, the Jenkins Activity Survey, and the Premenstrual Assessment Form. An hierarchical regression analysis supported the direct effects hypothesis and indicated that the Type A scores are associated with more reported menstrual symptoms at all levels o…
The Krantz Health Opinion Survey
The Krantz Health Opinion Survey, a measure of treatment preferences, was administered to 124 college women who also completed the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale and rated their own preventive health behaviors and intentions. Analysis confirmed previous findings of relations between the two scales, particularly the moderate negative correlation between the Krantz Behavioral Involvement Scale and Powerful Others Locus of Control. T…
Clients' Satisfaction and Rehospitalization among Psychiatric Patients
A clients' satisfaction questionnaire was given to 135 psychiatric patients in a state hospital. A 6-mo. follow-up of released patients indicated no significant difference in satisfaction between patients requiring rehospitalization and those not requiring rehospitalization. The results were consistent with previous research which has suggested that clients' satisfaction with treatment services may be relatively independent of other outcome measu…
Street Attire vs Nurses' Uniforms
A 12-item instrument was designed to quantify the views of 62 nurses on how the wearing of nurses' uniforms vs street attire might affect their performance of routine nursing duties, effectiveness of their therapeutic efforts, their role concepts, and interpersonal involvement with patients. Factor analysis indicated that the instrument had high internal reliability and unifactor content. Suggestions were offered for the instrument's utility as a…
Reliability and Stability of Wais IQs for Institutionalized Adult Retardates
The WAIS was administered twice to 204 institutionalized adult retardates, with a mean retest interval of 32 mo. Full Scale IQs on retest were within 8 points of initial Full Scale IQs for over 90% of the retardates and a test-retest reliability coefficient of .90 was obtained. These results demonstrate the high reliability and stability of WAIS Full Scale IQs for adult retardates
Future Outlook and Psychopathology among Psychiatric Patients
The Future Outlook Inventory, Rotter I-E Scale, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, Whitaker Index of Schizophrenic Thinking, and MMPI were administered to 109 hospitalized psychiatric patients. Lowered future outlook was associated with external locus of control, increased levels of depression, state and trait anxiety, and disordered thinking and with increased elevations on 9 of 13 MMPI scales. Future outlook scores were n…
Variance Components of the Wisc-R in Eleven Age Groups
The mean variance components of the WISC-R were calculated from normative data and compared with previously reported mean variance components of the WISC. Only slight differences were noted in the mean variance components of the two tests. Both the WISC and WISC-R subtests appear to possess relatively less specific variance than do several other psychological tests. It does not appear that the patterning of WISC-R subtests will be any less frustr…
