The Past, the Present, and the Future of the Evolution of Mixed Reality in Teacher Education
The authors in this article provide a historical view (past) on the development of mixed reality (MR) simulation in teacher education as well as a brief history of simulation from other fields along with foundational knowledge on the evolution of simulation. The authors provide a systematic review of the current state (present) of the research in MR for teacher education within the past 5 years aligned with the research question “What are the use…
The Potential of Simulated Environments in Teacher Education
The future of virtual environments is evident in many fields but is just emerging in the field of teacher education. In this article, the authors provide a summary of the evolution of simulation in the field of teacher education and three factors that need to be considered as these environments further develop. The authors provide a specific example of the work at two universities that use a specific virtual environment, TLE TeachLivETM, in teach…
Are School Factors Important for Measuring Teacher Effectiveness? A Multilevel Technique to Predict Student Gains through a Value-Added Approach
This paper investigated the effect of teacher quality, represented by teacher level characteristics, on mathematics gain scores employing a three-level hierarchical linear model (HLM) through value-added model (VAM) approach. The analysis investigated significant predictors at student, teacher, and school levels for predicting students' gain scores and also estimated d-type effect sizes at teacher and school levels. We found the significant effec…
Note on the Face Validity of Certification Competencies of Computer Science Teaching
Rating scale data on the face validity of competencies in computer science teaching were compared for three groups (150 practitioners, 67 district specialists, 101 faculty). Through the use of Boxplots certain trends were readily identified. Implications for curricular validity were discussed
