The bi-factor structure and measurement invariance of the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (mhc-sf)
This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Filipino adaptation of the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (MHC-SF). Using data from 12,931 community members, we examined the scale’s factor structure, measurement invariance, reliability, and validity, and established empirical cutoff scores. Confirmatory factor analysis and Rasch analysis revealed that a bi-factor structure outperformed alternative factor structures, with acceptable to…
Technology‐Mediated Mental Health Programs and Interventions for Educators
Educators are a vital yet vulnerable workforce, often facing mental health issues. Although intervention programs exist, the extant literature primarily focuses on student services. This paper presents a systematic review and meta‐analysis to evaluate technology‐mediated psychological interventions for educators. A thorough search across seven electronic databases identified 27 studies for the systematic review and 17 for the meta‐analysis. The r…
Assessment of class participation in online and offline learning environments
Class participation is an important indicator of student engagement. As research on assessing class participation is relatively scarce, questions of how to achieve reliability in assessing class participation and how to minimize subjectivity in the process remain to be addressed. As assessment approaches get updated in the era of Generative AI, there is a need to revisit the topic to uncover the various ways educators assess class participation i…
Effects of a Hope-Based, Single Session Online Intervention on Perfectionist Students’ Anxiety
This research aimed to test a single-session hope-based intervention anchored on the Locus-of-Hope Theory, specifically targeting perfectionist undergraduate students who were deemed to be vulnerable during the pandemic. The intervention was a modified version of a single-session goal-pursuit intervention for college students. Phase one involved a cross-sectional survey among 467 undergraduate students from a private university in Manila (65% fem…
The distinct link of perfectionism with positive and negative mental health outcomes
Perfectionism is a known risk for mental health symptoms. However, the literature on perfectionism and mental health mostly focused on the psychopathological symptoms when mental health is not only about the absence of psychopathology but also the presence of positive indicators. The present study aimed to examine the associations of adaptive and maladaptive dimensions of perfectionism with bidimensional mental health among undergraduate students…
Assessing class participation in physical and virtual spaces
Learning occurs best when students are given opportunities to be active participants in the learning process. As assessment strategies are being forced to change in the era of Generative AI, and as digital technologies continue to integrate with education, it becomes imperative to gather information on current approaches to evaluating student participation. This mini-review aimed to identify existing methods used by higher education teachers to a…
Behind the Scenes of Adaptive Learning
Adaptive learning technologies are emerging educational tools that personalize instruction and tasks to meet students’ current ability levels. Despite their increasing prevalence, the present discourse on adaptive learning software focuses on the technical aspects of adaptive learning systems without accounting for other factors that impact their use in classrooms. A systematic search was conducted in four databases (ERIC, Academic Search Complet…
Measurement of higher education students’ and teachers’ experiences in learning management systems
Learning management systems (LMSs) have facilitated access to courses beyond conventional classroom environments via distance and asynchronous education. Although numerous studies have examined LMS usage in higher education institutions, review of scales measuring the LMS experience of both students and teachers remains scarce. This scoping review aimed to identify scales assessing student and teacher experiences with LMS, along with the attribut…
Assessing the psychometric properties of the World Health Organization -five well-being index (WHO-5) in Filipino samples amid the Covid-19 pandemic
Overall, the findings suggest that the WHO-5 well-being index is a psychometrically sound tool for measuring Filipinos' well-being
Coronavirus Pandemic Anxiety Scale (CPAS-11)
Self-Efficacy and Psychological Well-Being of Family Caregivers of Persons with Spinal Cord Injury
Validation of the Five‐item Learning Climate Questionnaire as a measure of teacher autonomy support in the classroom
The Learning Climate Questionnaire (LCQ) measures teacher autonomy support in the classroom. There are various versions of the LCQ available, a 15‐item full‐scale version and a 6‐item shortened version. Recent research suggests that using a 5‐item version of LCQ is a more effective measure of teacher autonomy support. Using data from a sample of Filipino undergraduate students, the single‐factor structure of the Five‐item LCQ (LCQ‐5) was validate…
A quick review of recommendations and evidences on telepsychotherapy and digital psychiatry for researchers and mental health professionals in the time of Covid-19
An Exploratory Study About the Buffering Effect of Gratitude on the Relationship Between Neuroticism and Anhedonic Depression
