  • A Study of the Test of Supervisory Skills

    Open Access•Louis G Gamble, Tracie Burke et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2007

In supervisory selection and development it is important to assess individuals' supervisory competencies. In a field study, the Test of Supervisory Skills was validated against a surrogate criterion of supervisory performance, based upon position classification and supervisory experience. Subjects (N=2406), workers and applicants of both sexes, were recruited from multiple sources, tested, and the data analyzed to evaluate the usefulness of the t…

    Open Access•Leonard D Goodstein, Karen Lee Brazis•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1970

In order to evaluate the effects of bias among psychologists, two virtually identical abstracts of presumably empirical research in the area of astrology were prepared, one with positive findings and the other with negative findings. The data collected by mail from a random selection of professional psychologists indicated that those Ss receiving the negative abstract rated the study as better designed, more valid, and as having more adequate con…

  • Awareness and Intertrial Activity in Verbal Conditioning

    Open Access•Steven L Mandel, Leonard D Goodstein•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1969

It was hypothesized that, in VOC, the relationship between awareness and performance gains would be a function of the experimental conditions during training. Fifty-six naive Ss were assigned to 1 of 4 experimental conditions. Each group performed the Taffel sentence-construction task. This was the only treatment given one group; a second group was required to perform a color-naming task between trials. A third group was required to write their “…

  • Responses to Death and Sex Stimulus Materials as a Function of Repression-Sensitization

    Open Access•Joyce Paris, Leonard D Goodstein•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1966

It was hypothesized that sensitizers would express more anxiety to literary material dealing with both sex and death than would repressers. Further, it was hypothesized that there would be more anxiety verbalized to both sets of experimental materials than there would be for control materials. From a larger subject pool, 36 male repressers and 30 female repressers plus equal numbers of male and female sensitizers were chosen on the basis of their…

  • Cross-Validation of the Aaronson MF Index with a College Population

    Open Access•Richard F Maine, Leonard D Goodstein•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1966

The present study attempted to cross-validate the Aaronson Mf Index, which is based upon four of the MMPI clinical scales, with a college population and, further, to test the fakabiliry of this index under instructions to take the MMPI as a member of the opposite sex. In two samples of college students taking the MMPI under standard instructions, the Mf Index failed to discriminate biological males from females, although the traditional Mf scale …

  • Verbal Conditioning in a New Sentence Construction Task: A Further Study

    Open Access•Leonard D Goodstein, Richard I Lanyon et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1964

The previously obtained results in verbal conditioning with a new sentence construction task were shown in this study to be independent of sex of both S and E. It was shown that the conditioning of names beginning with L and M was possible, although there was a significant initial preference for M names. These results further demonstrated that conditioning on this task was restricted exclusively to the aware Ss
