Self-disturbance in first-episode psychosis: Theoretical framework and potential cannabis interactions - a systematic review
Cannabis use represents a significant environmental risk factor for psychotic disorders, with emerging evidence suggesting complex interactions between cannabinoid exposure, dissociative experiences, and fundamental disturbances of self-experience (self-disorders) in early psychosis. This systematic review examines the phenomenological and neurobiological relationships among dissociation, cannabis use, and self-disturbance in first-episode psycho…
Efficacy and tolerability of vortioxetine monotherapy in SSRI-resistant OCD: A retrospective multicenter study
This study provides preliminary evidence of the efficacy and tolerability of vortioxetine monotherapy in SSRI-resistant OCD. The observed improvements in OCD, depressive and anxiety symptoms suggest that vortioxetine may represent a valuable therapeutic option. Further prospective controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings
Glymphatic system dysfunction in young adults hospitalized for an acute psychotic episode: A preliminary report from a pilot study
The glymphatic system is integral to the elimination of metabolic waste from the central nervous system and has been extensively studied in relation to neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases. Emerging evidence suggests that glymphatic dysfunction may also play a role in psychiatric disorders, including psychosis and schizophrenia. This pilot study investigated glymphatic clearance in young adults hospitalized for an acute psychotic episod…
Glymphatic system and psychiatric disorders: Need for a new paradigm
Psychiatric disorders like depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and post-traumatic stress Disorder have conventionally theorized on alterations in neurotransmitters, receptor pharmacodynamics, and neural connectivity. However, recent research points to a complementary framework involving the glymphatic system, a specialized glial lymphatic pathway that removes metabolic waste products, particularly during deep sleep, through the coordinat…
Psychotic-Like Experiences in Young Recreational Users of Ketamine: A Case Study
This study explores the psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) associated with recreational ketamine use among young adults. Ketamine, initially introduced as an anesthetic, is now widely used recreationally for its dissociative effects, raising concerns about its impact on mental health. Ten participants aged 18-24, who used ketamine recreationally multiple times a week, were assessed using the Community Assessment of Psychic Experiences (CAPE-42). R…
Bipolar Disorder: Identity, Social Support, Religiosity and Spirituality. Can Religiosity/Spirituality be a Mood Balancing Factor? An Italian Case Report
This paper presents a case study to support the hypothesis that religiosity and spirituality (R/S), as mood balancing factors, could facilitate the recovery process for patients suffering from bipolar disorder (BD) once they have been stabilized and are receiving appropriate support (e.g., in a residential rehabilitative center). After a succinct review of BD and R/S, the patient’s medical history and rehabilitation pathway are described, with a …
Aberrant salience in cannabis-induced psychosis: A comparative study
This study may help understanding the role of AS in both non-substance-related and substance-induced psychosis. This knowledge may lead clinician to a better diagnosis and identify patient-tailored psychopharmacological treatment
Impulsivity and alexithymia predict early versus subsequent relapse in patients with alcohol use disorder: A 1‐year longitudinal study
Internet Gaming Disorders and Early Onset Psychosis in Young People: A Case Study and Clinical Observations
Although it is difficult to show the specific mechanisms underlying the psychopathological alterations in IGD, it is clear that excessive exposure to video games could be a risk factor for precipitating psychosis especially in a vulnerable age group such as adolescence. Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of a higher risk of psychotic onset associated specifically with gaming disorders in very young people
Phone-based outpatients’ follow-up in mental health centers during the Covid-19 quarantine
BACKGROUND: The current COVID-19 pandemic is affecting mental health of global population and, particularly, of people suffering from preexisting mental disorders. AIMS: This study aims to report on findings from a phone-based clinical follow-up conducted in two large catchment areas in Italy and Paraguay, during the COVID-19 lockdown, in order to provide psychiatric assessments and measure the level of stress related to the quarantine in a large…
Mental health problems in children & pandemic: Dangers lurking around the Corner and possible management
Facebook and Suicidal Behaviour: User Experiences of Suicide Notes, Live-Streaming, Grieving and Preventive Strategies—A Scoping Review
Social media can detect suicidal tendencies, support those seeking help, comfort family and friends with their grief, and provide insights via timelining the users' activities leading to their suicide. One of the limitations was the lack of quantitative studies evaluating preventative efforts on Facebook. The creators' commitment and the users' social responsibility will be required to create a mentally healthy Facebook environment
Lurasidone use in Cannabis-Induced Psychosis: A Novel Therapeutic Strategy and Clinical Considerations in Four Cases Report
There are non-controlled studies for the use of lurasidone in first episode psychosis cannabis induced. These findings suggest that lurasidone is an atypical antipsychotic beneficial in this clinical picture. Treatment with medium-high doses of lurasidone could be effective and tolerable in this phase of the disorder. Randomized control trials with longer follow-up are recommended to confirm these positive results
Urbanization and emerging mental health issues

Duration of Untreated Disorder and Cannabis Use: An Observational Study on a Cohort of Young Italian Patients Experiencing Psychotic Experiences and Dissociative Symptoms
According to our study, cannabis use can be a predictor of FEP and DUP, and of disease outcome. However, several factors might influence the relationship between cannabis use and DUP. Preventing cannabis use and early diagnosis of psychotic disorders might impact the disease by reducing the persistence of symptoms and limiting dissociative experiences
Understanding the Complex of Suicide in Depression: From Research to Clinics
Objective Amongst psychiatric disorders, major depressive disorder (MDD) is the most prevalent, by affecting approximately 15–17% of the population and showing a high suicide risk rate equivalent to around 15%. The present comprehensive overview aims at evaluating main research studies in the field of MDD at suicide risk, by proposing as well as a schematic suicide risk stratification and useful flow-chart for planning suicide preventive and ther…
Prescription Drug Misuse in “Clubbers” and Disco Goers in Ibiza
Background: Prescription drug misuse and its related risks are considered a worldwide public health issue. This study aims to report the sociodemographic data and the psychiatric and …
Sensitivity to Climate and Weather Changes in Euthymic Bipolar Subjects: Association With Suicide Attempts
Our findings support the relevance of sensitivity to weather and climate variations in a large sample of BD subjects and point out the association of this feature with lifetime suicide attempts
The FDA “Black Box” Warning on Antidepressant Suicide Risk in Young Adults: More Harm Than Benefits
The decision made in the year 2004 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to require a boxed warning on antidepressants regarding the risk of suicidality in young adults still represents a matter of controversy. The FDA warning was grounded on industry-sponsored trials carried one decade ago or earlier. However, within the past decade, an increasing number of reports have questioned the actual validity of the FDA warning, especially consi…
