  • “Leading Women” or “Wives/Daughters of the Leading Men”

    Stephen Llewelyn, Alexandra Robinson•ARTICLE•Novum Testamentum•2026

The wording γυναικῶν τε τῶν πρώτων in Acts 17:4 is ambiguous. It has been either glossed as “the leading women” or “wives/women of the leading men.” Relevance Theory ( RT ) uses encoded text, co-text, and context to understand how a hearer attempts to disambiguate meaning. When the RT approach is applied, it appears that “wives/daughters of leading men” may have been to an ancient reader the more relevant and salient reference and therefore the i…

  • Indicators for Reproductive Violence

Open Access•Erin Pearson, Erin E Pearson et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Family Planning•2025

The term reproductive violence (RV) unifies forms of gender‐based violence that compromise reproductive autonomy. This study developed a multilevel quantitative measurement framework for RV comprised of indicators at the interpersonal, community, institutional, and law and policy levels. We conducted a systematized literature review, extracting and scoring existing indicators based on prior testing in a low‐ and middle‐income country setting, psy…

  • Rights Adrift

Natasha Yacoub, Nikola Errington et al.•ARTICLE•Asia Pacific Journal on Human…•2021

Women fleeing Myanmar in 2015 were trapped on the Andaman Sea for months when States in the region closed off places of disembarkation. Among the horrors of starvation and unsanitary conditions experienced on the boats, they faced additional risks of sexual violence. These women fled from a situation in Myanmar that severely curtailed their rights, including gender violence, which is being tried as genocide at the International Court of Justice, …

  • Jude on the Attack

Alexandra Robinson, Chris Keith•BOOK•Jude on the Attack•2018

Alexandra Robinson examines the letter of Jude in the light of repeated scholarly references to it as an invective, a polemic, and an attack speech, with a dependence on both Jewish and Greco-Roman sources. Robinson renders more specifically what these Jewish and Hellenistic elements are, and how they relate to the harsh nature of the discourse. This in-depth study shows precisely how, where, and why Jude borrows from these contemporary genres. R…

  • Showing Mercy to the Ungodly and the Inversion of Invective in Jude

Open Access•Alexandra Robinson, Stephen Llewelyn et al.•ARTICLE•New Testament Studies•2018

The present paper offers a new interpretation of the three-clause reading of Jude 22–23 and demonstrates how Jude carries on the Jesus tradition by inverting the norms of invective. It is demonstrated that this interpretation is especially surprising given that the epistle follows many conventions of Greco-Roman invective. Given the character of invective, one would expect the writer to instruct the beloved to expel the ungodly from the community…

  • Systematic review of infant and young child complementary feeding practices in South Asian families

Open Access•Logan Manikam, Ankita Prasad et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2018

Objective Suboptimal nutrition among children remains a problem among South Asian (SA) families. Appropriate complementary feeding (CF) practices can greatly reduce this risk. Thus, we undertook a systematic review of studies assessing CF (timing, dietary diversity, meal frequency and influencing factors) in children aged Design Searches between January 2000 and June 2016 in MEDLINE, EMBASE, Global Health, Web of Science, OVID Maternity & Infant …

  • Slavery Hinterland

Open Access•Felix Brahm, Eve Rosenhaft et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Slavery Hinterland•2016•Cited by: 10

Slavery Hinterland explores a neglected aspect of transatlantic slavery: the implication of a continental European hinterland. It focuses on historical actors in territories that were not directly involved in the traffic in Africans but linked in various ways with the transatlantic slave business, the plantation economies that it fed and the consequences of its abolition. The volume unearths material entanglements of the Continental and Atlantic …
