Accuracy of Capillary Blood for Assessing Vitamin A Nutritional Status Among Children Under 7 Years of Age
Vitamin A deficiency remains a major public health problem worldwide, particularly among young children. Capillary blood has the potential for application in vitamin A assessment. The aim of this study is to validate the accuracy of capillary blood for assessing vitamin A nutritional status among young children. Venous and capillary blood samples were simultaneously collected from 1366 healthy children under 7 years of age across 12 regions in Ch…

Factors Associated with E-Cigarette Quit Intention Among Adolescents in the United States
Background: Given increasing use of e-cigarettes among adolescents in the United States and its potential for nicotine addiction, encouraging adolescents to quit using these products has become a public health priority. This study examined factors at various socio-ecological levels associated with e-cigarette quit intention (pre-contemplation, contemplation, or preparation) using the Stages of Change of the Trans-theoretical Model among the U.S. …
The Changing Patterns and Correlates of Adolescent Substance Use in China’s Special Administrative Region of Macau
Most of the research on adolescent substance use is from either the U.S, Europe, or other non-Eastern countries, but very little attention is paid to that in the Greater China Region. As a special administrative region of China, Macau is known for its gambling industry, its proximity to the Golden Triangle, and its lenient drug laws, all of which can be conducive to high-level drug use in the population, including its adolescents. Yet, the extent…
Determinants of Willingness to Use PrEP Among Gay and Bisexual Men in China Before Implementation
HIV risk management among sexual minority men in China
This study examined the social context and lived experience of HIV risk management among sexual minority men in China. An interpretative phenomenological analysis of 25 in-depth interviews with participants in five Chinese cities was undertaken. Findings show how men managed HIV risk in the context of high risk perception and anxiety, and strong perceived social discrimination and marginalisation. Men's choice of risk management strategies was in…
Post-exposure prophylaxis
Despite abundant evidence on its safety, tolerability and cost-effectiveness, post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) has not been officially approved for non-occupational use in China. This study aims to assess awareness of, willingness to use, and actual experience with PEP in gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBM) in China and to explore potential associations between demographic, behavioral, and psychosocial factors and PEP-related o…
Do gay and bisexual men who conceal their same-sex behavior prefer different kinds of health services? Findings across four cities to inform client-centered HIV prevention in China
Our hypothesis that MSM who had disclosed versus never disclosed same-sex behavior would differ in the value they placed on different dimensions of sexual health service was partially borne out. As health authorities in China decide on implementation models for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) delivery and specifically within which institutions to integrate PrEP services, the preferences of target populations should be considered to develop compre…
