  • Modern pollen rain in humid tropical mountain forests from eastern Mexico: A patch-dynamics approach

    Open Access•Tonatiuh Jiménez-Zamora, David Espinosa et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 15

Modern pollen rains have demonstrated that human legacies represent crucial information on the performance of strategies for biological conservation. However, the potential use of pollen rains in aspects related to human disturbance and other cultural processes remains scarcely explored in forest patches of tropical mountain environments. Our study offers an ecological model for stratifying management intensities using moss polster contents in th…

Kathleen Belanger, Becky Price-Mayo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Child Welfare•2008•Cited by: 3•References: 2

While poverty and substance abuse are two critical predictors of entry in the child welfare system, rural families have at least as frequent mental health and substance abuse treatment needs as their urban counterparts, greater poverty, and less access to services. A content analysis of final reports for Round One of the Child and Family Services Reviews (CFSRs) found rural comments related to 26 of the 45 items reviewed, and particularly related…

In 1926 students enrolled in Mexico City’s exclusive Catholic preparatory schools faced a crisis that threatened to ruin their academic careers. They were in a serious quandary because officials at the government-supported National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) were placing what were viewed as unfair obstacles to their plans of matriculating into the university, thereby threatening the aspirations that these students and their parents ha…
