Stylistic Parameters of Minusinsk Rock Art Style
Stylistic Parameters of Minusinsk Rock Art Style
This study focuses on the formal typology of petroglyphs belonging to the Minusinsk tradition. While these are widely distributed, we analyze only zoomorphic images from the Minusinsk Basin, because the earliest rock art in Southern Siberia and Central Asia, we believe, refers to a definite chronological stage, whereas the Minusinsk Style is its regional manifestation associated with the local cultural tradition. The purpose of the study is to id…
The Studies of the Ust-Tuba Petroglyphs in 2021-2022

The State of Preservation of the Shakhty Rock Art Site and the Prospects of Its Conservation
Problems of Indexing in Documentation and Mapping of Rock Art Sites
In early 21st century, there were a number of tendencies in the search for rock art, mainly due to the development of digital technologies. The development of documentation and analysis tools (mapping of sites using drones and GNSS receivers, digital photography, three-dimensional modeling of individual sites elements) allowed researchers to start a continuous (rather than a selective) process documentation on the new technological base, using el…

New Data on the Rock Paintings of Eastern Pamir
Purpose. Until recently, it was thought that colonization of the highlands of Pamir by humans had started in the early Holocene. But some recent investigations, especially dating of well-stratified archeological sites such as Istyk cave, demonstrate that humans appeared in the region in the late Pleistocene period. One of the important pieces of evidence of humankind's presence in an area all around the world is the rock art. Despite that there a…
Eastern Pamir Rock Art
The article is dedicated to cave drawings from Shakhty and Kurteke sites located in the high mountain areas of the Pamir. The main studies at these sites were carried out by V. A. Ranov in the late 1950s and 1960s of 20th century. The re-documenting of these drawings in 2019 and the processing of the received photographs by DStretch refined the contours and details of some images, important for attribution and subsequent interpretation. These dat…
