Baseline monocyte count predicts symptom improvement during intravenous ketamine therapy in treatment-resistant depression
Our prospective single-arm open-label observational study demonstrated that baseline AMC reliably predicted symptom improvement during intravenous ketamine treatment in TRD patients. AMC could therefore serve as a simple and easily accessible marker for symptom improvement during ketamine therapy in daily clinical practice. Future studies with larger sample sizes and a more detailed longitudinal assessment of AMC subtypes are needed to better und…
Association of Locomotor Activity During Sleep Deprivation Treatment With Response
Disrupted circadian rhythms and sleep patterns are frequently observed features of psychiatric disorders, and especially mood disorders. Sleep deprivation treatment (SD) exerts rapid but transient antidepressant effects in depressed patients and has gained recognition as a model to study quick-acting antidepressant effects. It is of interest how locomotor activity patterns during SD might be associated with and potentially predict treatment respo…
Antagonism of the Serotonin (5-HT)-2 Receptor and Insulin Sensitivity
OBJECTIVE: Both conventional and second-generation antipsychotics have been associated with an increased risk for impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes mellitus. Though this has been largely attributed to weight gain, there may also be a direct, receptor-mediated effect of antipsychotics on glucose tolerance. We tested the hypothesis that antagonism of the serotonin (5-HT)-2 receptor impairs insulin sensitivity. METHODS: Ten healthy male volunt…
