  • A Critical Discussion of the Characteristic Properties of List PR and FPTP Systems

Open Access•Eliora Van Der Hout, Jack Stecher et al.•ARTICLE•Analyse & Kritik•2007

This paper discusses the characteristic properties of List PR systems and FPTP systems, as given in Hout 2005 and Hout et al. 2006. While many of the properties we consider are common to both systems, it turns out (see Hout 2005) that the British system distinguishes itself by satisfying the district cancellation property, while the Dutch system distinguishes itself by satisfying consistency and anonymity. For scoring rules, topsonlyness is equiv…

  • On Some Properties of the Hoede-Bakker Index

    Agnieszka Rusinowska, H C M De Swart et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Mathematical Sociology•2007•References: 4

In this article, we analyze the decisional power index, the so called Hoede-Bakker index. This index takes the preferences of the players into account, as well as the social structure in which players may influence each other. We investigate the properties of the Hoede-Bakker index. We adapt some postulates for power indices and voting power paradoxes for the Hoede-Bakker set up. We investigate whether this decisional power index displays the ada…

  • Meaning and Use of not…until

    H C M De Swart, H De Swart•ARTICLE•Journal of Semantics•1996

Time adverbials introduced by until impose restrictions on the aspectual class of the main clause they combine with: they only combine with durative sentences. In negative sentences, the situation is more complex. The question arises whether negative sentences are durative, or whether there is a separate use of until as a negative polarity item. In this paper, I discuss the three treatments of not...until that are characterized in the literature …
