  • Effects of a multi-level intervention on pedestrians’ behavior among Iranian health worker supervisors

Open Access•Sepideh Harzand-Jadidi, Maryam Vatandoost et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background Pedestrian injury is a global public health concern. Multi-level community-based health education campaigns offer promise to reduce the burden. The current study investigated the effect of a multi-level intervention based on the socio-ecological model (SEM) to improve pedestrian safety by training health worker supervisors in Iran, with the expectation that they would disseminate their learned knowledge more broadly in the population. …

  • Interventions for Increasing Pedestrian Visibility to Prevent Injury and Death

Open Access•Roghayeh Khabiri, Leila Jahangiry et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Social Care in the…•2025

  • Drivers' unsafe behaviors in Iran

Open Access•Fatemeh Bakhtari Aghdam, Karim Shaheian et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Background The present study aims to investigate one of the major causes of traffic accidents: drivers' unsafe behaviors while driving. Methods In this cross-sectional study, the behaviors of 946 drivers at traffic lights were observed in the morning, at noon, and in the evening using direct in-field observation. The unsafe behaviors of the drivers included not fastening the seat belt, using a cellphone or handsfree device, smoking, being distrac…

  • Setting research priorities to achieve long-term national road safety goals in Iran

Open Access•Homayoun Sadeghi-bazargani, Masaomi Morioka et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2022

The top 20 research questions in the area of RTCs in Iran were determined by experts. The majority of these RQs were related to "road safety management". The results of this study may contribute to the optimal use of resources in achieving long-term goals in the prevention and control of road traffic crashes and its related injuries. Considering these RQs as research investment options will improve the current status of Road Traffic Injuries (RTI…

  • Modeling road traffic fatalities in Iran’s six most populous provinces, 2015–2016

    Open Access•Fatemeh Jahanjoo, Homayoun Sadeghi-bazargani et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

This study reveals that driving behavior, infrastructure design, and geometric road factors must be considered to avoid fatal crashes. Our results found that the above-mentioned factors had higher odds of a deadly outcome than their counterparts. Generally, addressing risk factors and considering the odds ratios would be beneficial for policy makers and road safety stakeholders to provide support for compulsory interventions to reduce the severit…

  • Hidden patterns among the fatally injured pedestrians in an Iranian population

    Open Access•Milad Jamali-Dolatabad, Parvin Sarbakhsh et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

CATPCA revealed hidden patterns among the fatally injured pedestrians in the form of six components. The revealed patterns showed that some interactions between correlated features led to a higher mortality rate

  • Driving Accidents, Driving Violations, Symptoms of Attention-Deficit-Hyperactivity (ADHD) and Attentional Network Tasks

Open Access•Seyed Hojjat Zamani Sani, Zahra Fathirezaie et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

In a sample of Iranian drivers, self-rated symptoms of ADHD appeared to be associated with traffic violations and accidents, while symptoms of ADHD were unrelated to objectively assessed performance on an attentional network task. Poor attentional network performance was a significant predictor of traffic violations but not of accidents. To increase traffic safety, both symptoms of ADHD and attentional network performance appear to merit particul…

  • Developing a national road traffic safety education program in Iran

Open Access•Fatemeh Bakhtari Aghdam, Homayoun Sadeghi-bazargani et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

The designed program should be implemented for all target groups for road safety promotion. The proper content was provided with proper educational methods and instructors for the target groups. A lead agency is needed to provide the resources and funding to run the program

  • Setting research priorities to achieve long-term health targets in Iran

Open Access•Parisa Mansoori, Reza Majdzadeh et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global Health•2018

BACKGROUND: In 2015, it was estimated that the burden of disease in Iran comprised of 19 million disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), 74% of which were due to non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The observed leading causes of death were cardiovascular diseases (41.9%), neoplasms (14.9%), and road traffic injuries (7.4%). Even so, the health research investment in Iran continues to remain limited. This study aims to identify national health resea…

  • A decade of road traffic fatalities among the elderly in north-West Iran

    Open Access•Homayoun Sadeghi-bazargani, Bahram Samadirad et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

Pedestrian inner-city crashes in East Azerbaijan province of Iran are a major cause of road injury fatalities among the elderly and should be considered as a priority in road safety interventions

  • Individual-level predictors of inpatient childhood burn injuries

    Open Access•Homayoun Sadeghi-bazargani, Homayoun Sadeghi‐Bazargani et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

Major risk predictors of burn injuries among the Iranian population included childhood ADHD, child's age, watching television, playing outdoors, high economic status and flammable clothing

  • Household related predictors of burn injuries in an Iranian population

    Open Access•Homayoun Sadeghi-bazargani, Homayoun Sadeghi‐Bazargani et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012
