Not All Service Imports Are Created Equal. The Role of Imported Services in Promoting Goods' Export Growth
The paper studies the dynamic interplay between service imports and goods export performance, examining how different types of service imports influence both the extensive and intensive margins of goods exports. Utilising a comprehensive dataset of transaction‐level data on goods and services trade alongside firm‐level balance sheet data from Slovenia spanning from 2006 to 2020, the study isolates the effects of service imports on various dimensi…
Firm‐level export duration
This paper explores the impact of a firm's market‐specific ownership linkages and trade complementarities on different dimensions of its exporting longevity. Unlike previous studies that were mostly based on country‐product‐level data, this paper uses transaction‐level trade data on the population of firms in Slovenia in the 2002–11 period, matched with detailed origin/direction of inward/outward FDI information to determine a firm's integration …
What makes a successful exporter? An introduction
The papers in this issue continue with the tradition of adding puzzles pieces to the overall picture of the impact and importance of firm international activities. In "What makes a successful exporter?", we have collected twelve papers, the majority of which were presented at the 13th annual ISGEP workshop in Ljubljana, Slovenia on 20–21 September 2018. The common thread linking these papers is that they explore both what it means to be an export…
The Performance of Trading Firms in the Services Sectors – Comparable Evidence from Four EU Countries
We examine trade complexity and the implications of adding additional dimensions of trade for firm performance among services producers. We use unique firm‐level data to compare these patterns across four EU countries. Overall, services firms are relatively less engaged in trade than manufacturing firms; they mostly trade goods and are more likely to import than to export. Trade in services is quite rare; services are more likely to be traded by …

The current crisis dramatically worsened labour market situation, making employment almost impossible for many, primarily the vulnerable groups (older, women). Survey data used in cluster analysis reveal that the unemployment is related to self-concept, but besides unem…
