Efficient high-risk human papillomavirus screening through pooled testing
Background: The World Health Organization recommends high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) testing as the primary method for cervical cancer screening. Combining samples in a pool can reduce the expense associated with large numbers of commercially available tests. This study simulated the potential test-saving impact of pooled hrHPV testing using real-world data from two low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Methods: We simulated a two- and…
Women’s empowerment and nutritional status of children
Objectives: This study examines aspects of women’s empowerment related to the nutritional status of under-five children in Bangladesh, including their age-appropriate food intake and access to healthcare during acute respiratory tract infection (ARI). Design: Three waves of the Bangladesh Demographic Health Survey (BDHS) data (2011, 2014 and 2017–2018) were pulled and utilised to construct three domains of the Survey-Based Women’s Empowerment Ind…
The effect of hrHPV prevalence on cervical cancer screening strategies
Our study demonstrates that the hrHPV test + VIA strategy is cost-effective both compared to no screening and VIA + colposcopy screening strategy under the optimal (70%) and realistic (8.7%) uptake scenarios, with greater cost-effectiveness at higher hrHPV prevalence levels. While VIA-based strategy is cheaper, self-sampling hrHPV test-based strategy offers greater health benefits. Implementing hrHPV testing in national screening programs at lowe…
Evaluating chikungunya outbreak size and emergency vaccination strategies in Miami
While empirical validation is not yet possible due to the absence of large-scale outbreaks in Miami, our exploratory modeling provides forward-looking insights into how outbreaks might unfold and how emergency vaccination could mitigate their impact. This scenario-based framework should be viewed as an early evaluation to inform preparedness discussions, stimulate further research, and guide proactive public health strategies in Miami and other s…
High-risk human papillomavirus testing for underscreened populations
The provided estimates can serve to inform policymakers and researchers in the context of implementing hrHPV-based screening in diverse settings
Early evaluation of a screen-and-treat strategy using high-risk HPV testing for Uganda
Background: Uganda has a high burden of cervical cancer and its current coverage of screening based on visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) is low. High-risk HPV (hrHPV) testing is recommended by the World Health Organization as part of the global elimination strategy for cervical cancer. In this context, country-specific health economic evaluations can inform national-level decisions regarding implementation. We evaluated the recommended hrH…
Country score tool to assess readiness and guide evidence generation of immunization programs in aging adults in Europe
Objectives Delaying of policies for immunization of aging adults, low vaccine uptake, and the lack of supportive evidence at the national level could diminish the value in health and economics of such programs. This study aims to develop a “country score tool” to assess readiness and to facilitate evidence generation for aging adult immunization programs in Europe, and examine the comprehensiveness, relevance, acceptability, and feasibility of th…
Cost-effectiveness of non-communicable disease prevention in Southeast Asia
Background: Cost-effectiveness analyses (CEAs) on prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are necessary to guide decision makers to allocate scarce healthcare resource, especially in Southeast Asia (SEA), where many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are in the process of scaling-up preventive interventions. This scoping review aims to summarize the cost-effectiveness evidence of primary, secondary, or tertiary prevention of type 2 d…
Economic evaluations of mammography to screen for breast cancer in low- and middle-income countries
Investigating feasibility of 2021 WHO protocol for cervical cancer screening in underscreened populations
ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT05234112 . Registered 10 February 2022
Psychometric properties of kidney disease quality of life-36 (KDQOL-36) in dialysis patients in Indonesia
The study supports the validity and reliability of both generic and kidney-specific domains of KDQOL-36 Bahasa Indonesia to evaluate quality of life in patients with HD and CAPD in Indonesia. As health-related quality of life is a crucial predictor of patient outcomes, this report contributes new evidence about validity and reliability to recommend the use of KDQOL-36 Bahasa Indonesia in dialysis centers
Inequalities in Rotavirus Vaccine Uptake in Ethiopia
A previous study in Ethiopia reported significant variation in rotavirus vaccine uptake across socioeconomic strata. This study aims to quantify socioeconomic inequality of rotavirus vaccine uptake in Ethiopia and to identify the contributing factors for the inequality. The concentration curve (CC) and the Erreygers Normalized Concentration Index (ECI) were used to assess the socioeconomic related inequality in rotavirus vaccine uptake using data…
