  • Environmental pressure and perceived costs and benefits of residents’ low-carbon behavior

Jie Yang, Jie Chi Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Environmental Planning…•2025

Effectively guiding residents towards low-carbon behavior is an important way to reduce carbon emissions, mitigate climate change and achieve sustainable social development. We developed a dual mediator model of environmental pressure on low-carbon behavior based on Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) theory. The structural equation modelling analysis method was used to conduct an empirical test with 1557 questionnaires of urban residents from Bei…

  • Do social preferences increase the pro-environmental behavior of farmers? — empirical evidence from protected areas in China

Open Access•Li Ma, Han Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Environment Development and…•2024

  • Is Ecological Birdwatching Tourism a More Effective Way to Transform the Value of Ecosystem Services?—A Case Study of Birdwatching Destinations in Mingxi County, China

Open Access•Tianle Liu, Li Ma et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Ecological birdwatching tourism is an ecological product and an essential part of ecotourism, and the realization of its recreation value is crucial for improving human well-being, and realization of the local benefits of ecosystem services for areas focused on biodiversity conservation, especially in bird species. In this study, we use travel cost interval analysis, one of the travel cost derived models featuring more easily satisfied assumption…

  • Organically Linking Green Development and Ecological Environment Protection in Poyang Lake, China Using a Social-Ecological System (SES) Framework

Open Access•Ji Feng, Zheng Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Wetlands are unique ecosystems formed by the interaction between land and water on Earth. Poyang Lake, which is a part of China's largest freshwater lake wetland, is well known for its ecological and economic importance. This study uses a social-ecological system (SES) framework that integrates watershed and human activities; we used action scenarios to analyse the influencing factors, solutions, and feedback mechanisms involved in the SES framew…

  • Improving Well-Being of Farmers Using Ecological Awareness around Protected Areas

Open Access•Li Ma, Yueting Qin et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Sustainability of ecosystems is crucial for improving human well-being and sustainably developing human society. In recent years, global attention towards ecosystems and human well-being has been increasing. Exploring and understanding the relationship between ecosystems and human well-being, and establishing the well-being of residents while protecting the ecosystem have become urgent problems. Based on 618 valid samples collected from communiti…

  • Balancing human–bear coexistence with biodiversity conservation

Kaiwen Su, Jie Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Human Dimensions of Wildlife•2021

Human–bear conflicts (HBC) impact the livelihoods and safety of local communities in underdeveloped areas and challenges local governments and wildlife conservation agencies. We conducted a systematic analysis of HBC in the Sanjiangyuan National Park, which is a core region of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau. This study consisted of semi-structured interviews with 81 stakeholders in October 2020, including local families and government departments. We …

  • Human-Elephant Conflicts and Villagers’ Attitudes and Knowledge in the Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve, China

Open Access•Kaiwen Su, Jie Ren et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

In this study, we analyzed the accidents associated with the Asian elephant ( Elephas maximus Linnaeus ) and issues pertaining to compensation in Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve from 2011 to 2018. We conducted interviews and a questionnaire survey with 217 villagers. The results show that: (1) the main Asian elephants damage is crop loss (more than 95% of the total damage), and the villagers suffer economic losses; (2) through the influence of tradi…
