Cognitive reserve moderates the relationship between childhood maltreatment, objective and subjective cognition, and psychosocial functioning in individuals with first-episode psychosis
The current results indicate that associations between specific CM subtypes, subjective and objective cognition, and psychosocial domains are moderated through CR with greater functioning. Early interventions focused on CR seeking to improve cognitive and psychosocial outcomes, with emphasis on improving subjective cognitive functions would be beneficial for individuals with FEP and CM. Long-term risk of psychiatric disorder and psychotropic prescription after Sars-CoV-2 infection among UK general population
Despite evidence indicating increased risk of psychiatric issues among COVID-19 survivors, questions persist about long-term mental health outcomes and the protective effect of vaccination. Using UK Biobank data, three cohorts were constructed: SARS-CoV-2 infection (n = 26,101), contemporary control with no evidence of infection (n = 380,337) and historical control predating the pandemic (n = 390,621). Compared with contemporary controls, infecte…
Impact of traumatic life events on clinical variables of individuals with first-episode psychosis and healthy controls
BACKGROUND: Traumatic life events (TLEs) are one of the most robust environmental risk factors for the onset of first-episode psychosis (FEP). AIMS: To explore TLEs in FEP patients and healthy controls (HC), to analyze gender differences and to examine whether TLEs were associated with sociodemographic, clinical and psychofunctional variables in all FEP sample and split by age. METHODS: Descriptive and cross-sectional study. Three hundred and thi…

Testosterone in Newly Diagnosed, Antipsychotic-Naive Men With Nonaffective Psychosis
OBJECTIVE: Schizophrenia has been associated with age-related abnormalities, including abnormal glucose tolerance, increased pulse pressure, increased inflammation, abnormal stem cell signaling, and shorter telomere length. These metabolic abnormalities and other findings suggest that schizophrenia and related disorders might be associated with accelerated aging. Testosterone activity has a progressive decline with increasing age. METHODS: We tes…
