Comparing plasma levels and ratios of tryptophan, serotonin, kynurenine and quinolinic acid between patients with bipolar disorder and healthy controls
Substantially, BD-patients with low 5-HT and severe burden could be distinguished based on KYN profiles/trajectories when affected by depression or PTSD, entailing different neuroinflammatory/neuroendocrine patterns in mood vs. post-traumatic stress dimensions. This will encourage deeper assessment of BD metabolic/inflammatory biomarkers, allowing for refined patients' stratifications and targeted therapeutic interventions
Post-Traumatic Stress Symptoms in Parents of Preschoolers First Diagnosed with Autism
(1) Background: A child's new diagnosis of autism can represent a highly stressful event for parents. Subthreshold autistic traits (ATs) have been linked to higher vulnerability to psychopathology when exposed to stressful situations, and high rates of ATs have been reported among parents of autistic children. This study aimed to evaluate post-traumatic stress spectrum symptoms (PTSS) in parents of preschool children newly diagnosed with autism a…
A 12-month longitudinal naturalistic follow-up of cariprazine in schizophrenia
This study confirms a good efficacy profile of cariprazine in both positive and negative symptoms in patients with Schizophrenia, combined with a good tolerability profile in extrapyramidal symptoms
Exploratory Study on the Associations between Lifetime Post-Traumatic Stress Spectrum, Sleep, and Circadian Rhythm Parameters in Patients with Bipolar Disorder
The present study aimed at exploring whether lifetime post-traumatic stress spectrum symptoms are associated with chronotype in patients with bipolar disorder (BD). Moreover, we explored whether the chronotype can moderate the potential associations between lifetime post-traumatic stress spectrum symptoms and rest-activity circadian and sleep-related parameters. A total of 74 BD patients were administered the Trauma and Loss Spectrum Self-Report …
Mental Health Symptoms among General Practitioners Facing the Acute Phase of the Covid-19 Pandemic
During the 2020 first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, general practitioners (GPs) represented the first line of primary care and were highly exposed to the pandemic risks, with a consequent risk of developing a wide range of mental health symptoms. However, scant data are still available on factors associated with a worse outcome. The aim of the present study was to investigate mental health symptoms in 139 GPs in the aftermath of the first COVID-…
Psychopathological Impact in Patients with History of Rheumatic Fever with or without Sydenham’s Chorea
Sydenham's chorea (SC) is a post-streptococcal autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system, and it is a major criterium for the diagnosis of acute rheumatic fever (ARF). SC typically improves in 12-15 weeks, but patients can be affected for years by persistence and recurrencies of both neurological and neuropsychiatric symptoms. We enrolled 48 patients with a previous diagnosis of ARF, with or without SC, in a national multicenter prospecti…
Problematic Use of the Internet in Subjects With Bipolar Disorder
Background: Literature shows a high risk for problematic use of the Internet (PUI) in mood disorders, especially in bipolar disorder (BD). In subjects with BD, traumatic events and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are related to alcohol or substance use disorder, as well as to gambling disorder. However, little is known about the possible association between traumatic exposure and PUI. The present study was aimed at examining the relationship…
