  • Antipsychotics lower peripheral markers of inflammation in drug-naïve early psychosis

Open Access•Nicole Šafářová, Marián Kolenič et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

These findings suggest a consistent dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effect during early antipsychotic treatment in FEP. Given the exploratory nature of this study, larger studies are needed to confirm these findings

  • Higher Body-Mass Index and Lower Gray Matter Volumes in First Episode of Psychosis

Open Access•Marián Kolenič, Filip Španiel et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

This study suggests that higher BMI, which is frequent in FEP, may contribute to cerebellar alterations in schizophrenia. As previous studies showed that obesity-related brain alterations may be reversible, our findings raise the possibility that improving the screening for and treatment of obesity and associated metabolic changes could preserve brain structure in FEP
