  • The specificity of the Threat/Control-Override concept in schizophrenia – new insights from a retrospective cross-sectional study of forensic homicide offenders

Open Access•Hannelore Findeis, Maria Strauß et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

For the first time, the TCO complex is examined in a cross-diagnostic comparison, and the specificity of TCO for patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders with the most serious violent offences can be demonstrated. In order to avoid false positives and to be able to identify clear psychopathological risk symptoms, future studies should include larger samples and, most importantly, non-offending controls

  • The impact of emotional dysregulation and comorbid depressive symptoms on clinical features, brain arousal, and treatment response in adults with ADHD

Open Access•Jue Huang, Nicole Mauche et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

Our findings may support the assumption that ED may be an important feature of ADHD. The use of EEG-based brain arousal regulation as a diagnostic and predictive tool in ADHD in the presence of ED and comorbid depressive symptoms should be further investigated

  • No evidence of structural abnormality of the substantia nigra in adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder

Open Access•Isabel Friedrich, Daniela von Kuenheim et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

In this pilot study, we observed no evidence of structural abnormalities of the SN among adults diagnosed with ADHD, thus questioning the potential of SN+ as a biomarker for ADHD in this population. Moreover, we found no evidence of treatment-related SN echogenicity changes that would link therapeutic psychostimulant use to alterations in the structural integrity of the SN

  • The TCO concept in German forensic homicide offenders with schizophrenia spectrum disorders – new findings from a file-based, retrospective cross-sectional study

Open Access•Hannelore Findeis, Maria Strauß et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2024

Regarding the entire TCO complex, Kröber's definition seems a little more open and Stompe et al.'s more strict (38.5% vs . 35.9%). Since TCO only occurs in about one third of the subjects in both definitions, neither definition appears to be conclusive. A combination with proportions from both definitions could be a contribution to a future definition of TCO . The present study provides scarcely published primary data on psychopathology in homici…

  • Case Report

    Open Access•Ezgi Dogan-Sander, Maria Strauß•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Introduction: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common disease in childhood and adolescence. In about 60% of pediatric patients, the symptoms persist into adulthood. Treatment guidelines for adult ADHD patients suggest multimodal therapy consisting of psychostimulants and psychotherapy. Many adult ADHD patients also suffer from psychiatric comorbidities, among others obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The treatment of the com…

  • How Is the Presence of Company Related to Thwarted Belongingness in Real Time? Taking a Closer Look at the Conceptualization of the Construct of the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide

Open Access•Nina Hallensleben, Heide Glaesmer et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

    (1) Background: The role of thwarted belongingness (TB) in predicting suicidal ideation, as originally assumed by the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide, is repeatedly challenged by empirical findings. This could be due to an inadequate conceptualization of the construct of TB that is assumed to be influenced by intrapersonal and interpersonal factors. (2) Methods: We examined the associations of TB with intrapersonal variables related to depression…
