  • Assessing the effectiveness of international government responses to the Covid-19 pandemic

    Open Access•Héctor López-Mendoza, M González-Álvarez et al.•ARTICLE•Economics & Human Biology•2024

This paper examines the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical measures adopted by governments to control the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a Panel VAR model for the OECD countries, we test for Granger causality between the 7-day cumulative incidence, mortality rate, and government response indexes. Granger-type statistics reveal evidence that the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic influenced the measures taken by governments. However, l…

  • Are prices converging in the global sawnwood market

Open Access•José María Gil Roig, José M Gil et al.•ARTICLE•Forest Policy and Economics•2023•References: 6

This paper aims at addressing if the increasing globalization in the international sawnwood markets has caused export prices to converge to a single reference price or, alternatively, certain restrictions remain to generate a segmented market where different reference prices for each market segment co-exist. Annual price series for the top-10 exporting countries are considered for that purpose. Results show that the data cannot support the null h…

  • Nearly Unbiased Estimation of Autoregressive Models for Bounded Near‐Integrated Stochastic Processes

Open Access•Josep Lluís Carrion‐i‐Silvestre, María Dolores Gadea et al.•ARTICLE•Oxford Bulletin of Economics and…•2021

The paper investigates the estimation bias of autoregressive models for bounded near‐integrated stochastic processes and the performance of the standard procedures in the literature that aim to correct the estimation bias. In some cases, the bounded nature of the stochastic processes worsens the estimation bias effect. The paper extends two popular autoregressive estimation bias correction procedures to cover bounded stochastic processes. Monte C…

  • Disparities in the Evolution of the Covid-19 Pandemic between Spanish Provinces

    Open Access•Héctor López-Mendoza, Agustina Montañés et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Spain experienced a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in autumn 2020, which has been approached with different measures by regional authorities. We analyze the presence of convergence in the cumulative incidence for 14 days (CI 14 ) in provinces and self-governing cities. The Phillips-Sul methodology was used to study the grouping of behavior between provinces, and an ordered logit model was estimated to understand the forces that drive creati…

  • Does the Great Recession Contribute to the Convergence of Health Care Expenditures in the US States

    Open Access•Jesús Clemente, Angelina Lázaro-Alquézar et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

This paper examines whether the Great Recession has altered the disparities of the US regional health care expenditures. We test the null hypothesis of convergence for the US real per capita health expenditure for the period 1980-2014. Our results indicate that the null hypothesis of convergence is clearly rejected for the total sample as well as for the pre-Great Recession period. Thus, no changes are found in this regard. However, we find that …
