  • Dissociation in a developmental psychopathology framework

Denise H Kyte, Hilary Hodgdon et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2023

Traumas occurring in later adolescence may confer greater risk of dissociation. Differential psychosocial outcomes also reinforce why approaching dissociation from a developmental psychopathology lens is important, enhancing the model's generalizability. • Dissociation

Denise H Kyte, Michael K Suvak et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2022

The study findings point toward a unidimensional conceptualization of dissociation. A developmental psychopathology framework is recommended for future research, allowing a nuanced and integrated approach to understanding dissociation and increasing generalizability across adolescents. • Nightmares and nondisturbed dreams impact daily change in negative emotion

Olivia H Tousignant, Daniel J Gla et al.•ARTICLE•Dreaming•2022

  • Temporary PTSD symptom increases among individuals receiving CPT in a hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial

    Sadie E Larsen, Margaret‐Anne Mackintosh et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2020

The rates of symptom increases, which were higher than in previous studies, may be attributed to a routine care sample or to the differences in session timing and measurement. These results add to a nascent literature documenting that symptom increases may be a normal, transient part of treatment that do not impact a patient's ability to have symptom improvement during a course of CPT. • The affective dynamics of reassurance-seeking in real-time interactions

    Open Access•Kayla A Lord, Kate L Harkne et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 47

According to several interpersonal theories of depression, excessive reassurance-seeking is one way depressed individuals may contribute to relationship deterioration, particularly in romantic relationships. The present study is the first behavioral investigation of the hypothesis that reassurance-seeking induces negative affect in interaction partners in real time. This study also investigates potential affective precursors to reassurance-seekin…

  • The Mindful Way through the Semester

    Open Access•Alison L Sagon, Sara B Danitz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Contextual Behavioral…•2018

  • Trauma cognitions are related to symptoms up to 10 years after cognitive behavioral treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder

    Open Access•Christine D Scher, Michael K Suvak et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2017

These data suggest that trauma-related cognitions are a potential mechanism for long-term maintenance of treatment gains after CBT for PTSD. Moreover, these cognitions may be a common, rather than specific, treatment maintenance mechanism. (PsycINFO Database Record

  • Predictors of Sexual Functioning in a Sample of U.S. Marines

Michael K Suvak, Leah A Brogan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Sexual…•2012

We examined predictors of sexual functioning in male and female U.S. Marines (n = 589) assessed longitudinally for approximately 11 years. Multiple domains of sexual functioning (dysfunctional sexual behaviors, sexual frequency, sexual problems, and sexual satisfaction) were assessed at the 11-year follow-up assessment (T5). T5 depressive symptoms emerged as the most robust predictor of all domains of sexual functioning. Different patterns of cor…

  • Associations of Gender and Gender-Role Ideology With Behavioral and Attitudinal Features of Intimate Partner Aggression

    Marcia K Fitzpatrick, Dawn M Salgado et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Men & Masculinity•2004•Cited by: 7•References: 14

This study examined the association between gender-role ideology (scores on a nonegalitarian-egalitarian attitudinal dimension) and features of intimate partner aggression, with attention to how this relationship varied as a function of gender. Undergraduates from a large northeastern urban university (N = 250) completed measures of relationship quality, gender-role ideology, psychological abuse, psychological victimization, physical abuse, physi…
