  • Non-native English-speaking applicants and the likelihood of physician assistant program matriculation

Open Access•Shahpar Najmabadi, Virginia L Valentin et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Education Online•2024

Results indicated that non-native English-speaking applicants have lower odds of PA program matriculation. Decrements in matriculation odds were large magnitude, minimally impacted by adjustment for confounders and persistent across the years. These findings suggest that PA program admission processes may disadvantage non-native English-speaking applicants. While there are potential explanations for the observed findings, they are cause for conce…

  • Long-term PM2.5 exposure and sepsis mortality in a US medicare cohort

Open Access•Trenton Honda, Trenton J Honda et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

Long-term PM 2.5 exposure is associated with elevated risks of sepsis-related mortality

  • Systemic Inflammation (C-Reactive Protein) in Older Chinese Adults Is Associated with Long-Term Exposure to Ambient Air Pollution

Open Access•Mona Elbarbary, Artem Oganesyan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

There is an established association between air pollution and cardiovascular disease (CVD), which is likely to be mediated by systemic inflammation. The present study evaluated links between long-term exposure to ambient air pollution and high-sensitivity C reactive protein (hs-CRP) in an older Chinese adult cohort ( n = 7915) enrolled in the World Health Organization (WHO) study on global aging and adult health (SAGE) China Wave 1 in 2008-2010. …

Professional organizations call for medical education to improve transgender care, but what curricula are being delivered is unknown. The goal of this study was to conduct the first comprehensive, national survey of transgender health care curricula in physician assistant (PA) education. METHOD: The authors sent …

  • Naive Forecast for Covid-19 in Utah Based on the South Korea and Italy Models-the Fluctuation between Two Extremes

Open Access•Fares Qeadan, Trenton Honda et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Differences in jurisdictional public health actions have played a significant role in the relative success of local communities in combating and containing the COVID-19 pandemic. We forecast the possible COVID-19 outbreak in one US state (Utah) by applying empirical data from South Korea and Italy, two countries that implemented disparate public health actions. Forecasts were created by aligning the start of the pandemic in Utah with that in Sout…
