  • Changes to autonomous motivation and reductions in amotivation led to positive mental health in overweight male football fans

Open Access•Øystein Røynesdal, Øystein Bue Røynesdal et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology & Health•2026

OBJECTIVE: Do post-program motivational regulations mediate the intervention effect of the SDT-based European Fans in Training (EuroFIT) program on self-esteem, well-being and vitality at 12-months follow-up? METHODS: A causal mediation analysis of data from the randomised controlled trial of the EuroFIT program that recruited 1113 overweight, male football fans in England, Norway, Portugal and the Netherlands. RESULTS: <.001), but not controlled…

  • Changes to men’s walking and the contribution of walking to self-reported physical activity in the EuroFIT programme

Open Access•Øystein Røynesdal, Eivind Andersen et al.•ARTICLE•Health Education Journal•2025

Objective: Gender-sensitive approaches to increasing men’s physical activity (PA) through sports settings have shown promise across cultural contexts. We examined changes to men’s walking and the contribution of walking towards self-reported PA after participating in the men-only European Fans in Training (EuroFIT) programme before exploring men’s experiences of sustaining walking to explain the quantitative findings. Design: A sequential mixed-m…

  • How European Fans in Training (EuroFIT), a lifestyle change program for men delivered in football clubs, achieved its effect

Open Access•Christopher Bunn, Victoria Palmer et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

    ISRCTN81935608, registered 16/06/2015

  • Office workers' perspectives on physical activity and sedentary behaviour

    Open Access•Lorraine L Landais, Judith G M Jelsma et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

The great value that office workers attach to health is reflected in their motivations and attitudes regarding physical activity. Increasing office workers' knowledge of the health risks of prolonged sitting may therefore increase their motivation to sit less. Although 'health' is considered important, other values, including social and work-related values, are sometimes prioritized. We conclude that interventions that aim to reduce sedentary beh…

  • Barriers and facilitators influencing the implementation of the occupational health intervention ‘Dynamic Work’

    Open Access•Victoria J E Z Mastenbroek, Judith G M Jelsma et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

The study protocol was registered on April 14, 2017 in the ClinicalTrials.gov Protocol Registration and Results System under registration number NCT03115645

  • Prevalence and correlates of domain-specific sedentary time of adults in the Netherlands

Open Access•Anne Loyen, Josephine Chau et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

This study reports high levels of total non-occupational sitting time of Dutch adults. The large proportion of sedentary leisure activities might indicate the potential of strategies aiming to reduce leisure sedentary time. The difference in correlates across sedentary behaviour domains demonstrates the importance of targeting these domains differently in interventions and policies

  • The Dynamic Work study

    Open Access•Judith G M Jelsma, Lidewij R Renaud et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

    ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03115645 ; Registered 13 April 2017. Retrospectively registered

  • Study protocol of European Fans in Training (EuroFIT)

Open Access•Femke Van Nassau, Hidde P van der Ploeg et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

    81935608 . Registered 16 June 2015

  • Is the process of delivery of an individually tailored lifestyle intervention associated with improvements in LDL cholesterol and multiple lifestyle behaviours in people with Familial Hypercholesterol…

    Open Access•Karen Broekhuizen, Judith G M Jelsma et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

Implementation of the PRO-FIT intervention in practice appears feasible, particularly PRO-FIT*advice, since it can be relative easily implemented with a high dose delivered. However, only less than half of the intervention group received the complete intervention-package as intended. Strategies to let participants optimally engage in using web-based computer-tailored interventions like PRO-FIT*advice are needed. Further, more emphasis should be p…
