The mediation effect of sleep quality on the association between ambient air pollution and type 2 diabetes among UK adults
The study revealed that long-term exposure to air pollution increased the risk of T2D incidence, with sleep quality serving as an important mediating factor. There are two modifiable risk factors for T2D identified and emphasized in our study: air pollution and sleep quality, which shed light on prospective primary prevention
Interactive effects of air pollutants and temperature on incidence of dementia
Mounting evidence has linked air pollution with dementia and temperature modifies the association of air pollution with other disease. However, their interactions on dementia are unclear. We used a prospective cohort study (the UK Biobank) included 498 660 adults without cognitive impairment or dementia at baseline and followed up for 11.50 years (5734 907 person-years). We applied Cox proportional hazards regression with time-varying exposures t…
Self-reported visual impairment and depression of middle-aged and older adults
Background: Visual impairment (VI) is a strong predictor of depression in middle-aged and older adults. However, the underlying mechanisms and pathways have not been well characterized. The purpose of this study was to determine whether Internet use and social participation mediate the effects of self-reported VI on depression. Methods: The study used the fourth wave of cross-sectional data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study,…
