  • Effects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Based Educational Intervention Addressing Fine Particulate Matter Exposure on the Mental Health of Elementary School Children

Open Access•Eun-Ju Bae, Eun Ju Bae et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2025

Objectives : This study assessed the effectiveness of a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based fine dust education program, grounded in the Health Belief Model (HBM), on elementary students' fine dust knowledge, related behaviors, and mental health (depression, anxiety, stress, sleep quality). Methods : From September to November 2024, 95 students (grades 4-6) living near a coal-fired power plant in midwestern South Korea were assigned to eithe…

  • Ischemic heart disease mortality due to fine particulate matter in Seoul between 2016 and 2020

    Open Access•Jongmin Oh, Myung‐Sook Park et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Our study assessed the burden of IHD mortality attributable to ambient PM 2.5 and the potential health benefits associated with its reduction in Seoul between 2016 and 2020. The findings suggest that continued efforts to reduce PM 2.5 concentrations could significantly mitigate IHD mortality, particularly in the context of an aging population

  • Two major modes of East Asian marine heatwaves

    Open Access•Seonju Lee, Myung‐Sook Park et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

We show two major modes of East Asian marine heatwaves (MHWs) associated with two contrasting sea surface temperature patterns over the subtropical western North Pacific (WNP). In the first MHW mode, ocean warming over East Asia occurs along with the subtropical WNP from the earlier winter by an El Niño-Southern Oscillation. The basin-wide ocean warming is finally intensified to an extreme warming state around East Asia, where a high-pressure reg…

  • Cancer Incidence Trend in the Hebei Spirit Oil Spill Area, from 1999 to 2014: An Ecological Study

    Open Access•Kyung‐Hwa Choi, Myung‐Sook Park et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

The Hebei Spirit oil spill (HSOS) occurred in the Republic of Korea on 7 December 2007. We aimed to describe the cancer incidence trend in Taean County before and after the oil spill. Five major cancers and leukemia were analyzed. Cancer incidence data were obtained from the Korean National Cancer Center. We compared the standardized incidence rates in Taean with those observed nationwide and selected three coastal areas. Joinpoint regression ana…

  • Preventive Effect of Residential Green Space on Infantile Atopic Dermatitis Associated with Prenatal Air Pollution Exposure

Open Access•Juneyoung Lee, Dirga Kumar Lamichhane et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Few birth cohort studies have examined the role of traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) in the development of infantile atopic dermatitis (AD), but none have investigated the role of preventive factors such as green spaces. The aim of this study was to investigate whether exposure to nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 10 ) during pregnancy is associated with increased risk of development of AD in 6-month…

  • Associations Between Excessive Sodium Intake and Smoking and Alcohol Intake Among Korean Men: Knhanes V

    Open Access•Kyung‐Hwa Choi, Myung‐Sook Park et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

In this study, we evaluated the associations of smoking and alcohol intake, both independently and collectively, with sodium intake in Korean men. Subjects (6340 men) were from the fifth Korean National Health Examination Survey (2010-2012). Smoking-related factors included smoking status, urinary cotinine level, and pack-years of smoking. Food intake was assessed using a 24-h recall. The odds of excessive sodium intake were estimated using surve…
