  • Connecting perception and production in early Catalan–Spanish bilingual children

Open Access•Marta Ramon-Casas, Susana Cortés et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Language•2023

This study investigates perception and production of the Catalan mid-vowel /e/-/ɛ/ contrast by two groups of 4.5-year-old Catalan–Spanish bilingual children, differing in language dominance. Perception was assessed with an XAB discrimination task involving familiar words and non-words. Production accuracy was measured using a familiar-word elicitation task. Overall, Catalan-dominant bilingual children outperformed Spanish-dominant bilinguals, the…

  • Household food insecurity and its association with overweight and obesity in children aged 2 to 14 years

    Open Access•Honorato Ortiz-Marrón, Maira Alejandra Ortiz-Pinto et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

The prevalence of HFI was high in the paediatric population, especially in households with low family purchasing power. HFI was associated with lower diet quality and higher prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity. Conxita Lleó, Susana Cortés et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of the…•2013•Cited by: 1

This article focuses on phonological aspects of bilingualism and includes two approaches: internal linguistic and sociolinguistic. The former approach is based on internal variables (markedness, frequency, complexity, uniformity), and the latter on external variables (age, school, family language, language of the peer-group). The article comprises two parts. First, we analyze spontaneous data produced by German-Spanish bilingual children and try …
