The implementation of a differential response service model in O ntario offered an opportunity to compare risk assessment ratings, service outcomes …

Stop Blaming the Victim: A Meta-Analysis on Rape Myths
Although male rape is being reported more often than before, the majority of rape victims continue to be women. Rape myths-false beliefs used mainly to shift the blame of rape from perpetrators to victims-are also prevalent in today's society and in many ways contribute toward the pervasiveness of rape. Despite this, there has been limited consideration as to how rape prevention programs and policies can address this phenomenon, and there is no u…

Marital dissolution was defined as divorce or separation from a spouse or a common-law partner. Results revealed a dramatic drop in women's income and…
Gender Differences in Poverty Rates After Marital Dissolution: A Longitudinal Study
Data from the Canadian Survey of Labor and Income Dynamics were used to examine rates of entering low income for divorced and separated men and women from 1999 to 2004. One in 5 women entered low income in the breakup year as compared with 1 in 13 men. About one quarter of women remained in low income for at least 1 year compared with 9.8% of men. Most divorced and separated women who entered low income did so during the breakup year and remained…
Examining the Lag Time Between State-Level Income Inequality and Individual Disabilities: A Multilevel Analysis
State-level income inequality has been found to have an effect on individual health outcomes, even when controlled for important individual-level variables such as income, education, age, and gender. The effect of income inequality on health may not be immediate and may, in fact, have a substantial lag time between exposure to inequality and eventual health outcome. We used the 2006 American Community Survey to examine the association of state-le…
