The long-term frequency and intensity of cyclonic storms and associated losses in Odisha, India
We investigated long-term (1890–2020) frequency changes in depressions (D), cyclonic storms (CS) and severe cyclonic storms (SCS), along Odisha coast. We reviewed the fatalities, damage to properties and livestock and linked with the existing cyclone disaster management policy of the state. The decadal frequencies of D and CS show marked declining pattern after reaching their peak in 1930–1939 and 1890–1899, respectively. On an average, the SCS h…

A modest J-shaped relationship between birth order o…

Gender and Adoption of Family Planning Methods a Study of Indian Couples
Family planning methods (FPM) are either male specific or female specific, except abstinence. In India, adoption of a FPM by a couple is subjected to gender bias, which is demonstrated in the findings of the previous studies. When a couple decides to adopt a permanent FPM, wife is more likely to adopt it. On the contrary, when a couple decides to practice non-permanent FPM husband is more likely to adopt it. Periodic abstinence is also practiced …
Hypertension and its correlates in two communities of dissimilar genetic ancestry in Sikkim, India
Lifestyle factors more than ethnicity and socio-economic factors contribute to the development of hypertension in these populations. Based on the results of this study, we would suggest that a sustainable increase in physical activity and reduction in alcohol consumption would be helpful in the proper management of hypertension for both groups
