Estimating baseline vehicular emissions for paratransit modes in sub-Saharan African cities
Road transport for cities in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is dominated by paratransit, whose GHG emissions are not often included in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) – the climate action plans made to cut emissions and adapt to climate impacts. Paratransit services are fraught with several challenges, making it difficult to provide reliable inventories of their traffic emissions. Accordingly, this study presents the baseline estimation …
Planting for food and jobs participation and its impact on maize productivity in Ghana
To foster maize productivity and advance agricultural development, the Government of Ghana (GoG) has enacted several flagship programmes as a response to the pressing need to improve the sector. Assessing solid waste management practices in the Techiman municipality of Ghana and the potential of recycling for revenue mobilization and reduction of waste menace
There is increased municipal solid waste (MSW) generation in most municipalities across the globe. This study assessed the recycling potential and contribution of the informal sector to waste management in the Techiman municipality of Ghana. MSW was collected from 400 households for 10 continuous days and characterised. On average, 3.2 kg and 0.8 kg of MSW are generated per household and per person per day, respectively. Assessment of water quality in boreholes from Tagrayire (Magazine) in Wa Municipality
This paper reports a study of the water quality of different boreholes used for drinking water by auto mechanics in Wa Municipality, Ghana. Eight boreholes and two dugouts labelled AW, BW, CW, DW, WW and AD, BD, CD, DD, WD were sampled for analysis at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The results showed that all the heavy metals and pH values were above the WHO-recommended threshold, but temperature, NO3- and PO43- were …
