  • Enhancing biodiversity monitoring in impact assessment follow-up through landscape metrics

Larissa Ribeiro Souza, Carla Grigoletto Duarte et al.•ARTICLE•Impact Assessment and Project…•2026

Field-based monitoring may be insufficient to detect biodiversity trends across scales, especially in projects that have the potential to impact extensive areas. Despite its importance, landscape-scale data collection is rare in impact monitoring practice. In this research, we tested landscape metrics to evaluate their contribution to enhancing forest biodiversity monitoring in the EIA follow-up process, using a case study of a bauxite mine in th…

  • Environmental impact assessment follow-up in offshore wind energy development: Strengths and gaps from regulatory frameworks in the international context

Anne Caroline Malvestio, Ana Paula Alves Dibo et al.•ARTICLE•Impact Assessment and Project…•2026

Offshore wind energy (OWE) has gained international prominence as an alternative for the energy transition. Due to their potentially significant impacts, OWE projects are often subject to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). Within the EIA process, follow-up is a crucial step in informing project’s management and enabling learning for future EIAs. Given that the regulatory framework is a core dimension of governance and foundational to effectiv…

  • Impacts of offshore wind farms: Significant for whom

Fernanda Aparecida Veronez, Ana Paula Alves Dibo et al.•ARTICLE•Impact Assessment and Project…•2026

Significance determination is one of the most complex and least understood elements of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). In offshore projects, especially in sensitive coastal zones, this task becomes even more critical. This study evaluates the quality of significance determinations in Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) for offshore wind projects. A purposive sample of 11 EISs from England, Scotland, the United States, and Brazil was ana…

  • Availability and accessibility of Environmental Impact Assessment documents of the offshore wind sector in public repositories

Ana Paula Alves Dibo, Carla Grigoletto Duarte et al.•ARTICLE•Impact Assessment and Project…•2026

The offshore wind energy sector is rapidly expanding globally, with dozens of new projects being proposed. As a consequence, the volume of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) documents prepared and stored in public repositories is increasing. To ensure transparency and support meaningful stakeholder participation, these documents must be available and accessible. This paper analyzes the current state of the availability and accessibility of EIA…

  • Developing strategic environmental assessment in contexts of non-systematic practice: Contributions for offshore energy transition

Open Access•Juliana Siqueira-Gay, Ana Paula Alves Dibo et al.•ARTICLE•Impact Assessment and Project…•2025

Energy transition initiatives are expanding the frontiers of offshore wind generation. Impact assessment instruments, such as strategic environmental assessment (SEA), should consider the consequences of these developments. By reviewing the literature on SEA and a case in Brazil, we draw lessons for harnessing potential SEA contributions to support offshore wind development in jurisdictions where its practice is non-systematic, i.e. conducted in …

  • Implantação da logística reversa de medicamentos e de suas embalagens em São Paulo, Brasil: Avanços no primeiro ano (2021)

    Open Access•Diego Xavier Paludetti, Gunther A Wagner et al.•ARTICLE•Ciência & Saúde Coletiva•2025

Open Access•Larissa Ribeiro Souza, Carla Grigoletto Duarte•ARTICLE•Desenvolvimento e Meio Ambiente•2024

  • Maslow and the Environment: Integrating the Social Representation and the Theory of Needs

Open Access•Anna Karolina Osório Pimentel, Luciana Aparecida Farias et al.•ARTICLE•Ambiente & sociedade•2024•References: 18

In his Theory of Needs, Maslow argues that in the self- actualization stage the individual would have more developed B- values, which would involve, among other characteristics, the tendency to be mostly dedicated to causes of collective interest to the detriment of individual interests. It would also be in the self- actualization stage that the environment would have an intrinsic value, an important aspect if we consider the need for developing …

  • Contributions of the French Strategic Environmental Assessment to Brazilian planning in water source areas: The Billings Reservoir sub-basin case

Open Access•Carla Grigoletto Duarte, Larissa Ribeiro Souza et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainability in Debate•2022

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a tool that aims to integrate environmental issues into decision-making processes, usually to support the development of sectoral or territorial plans and programs. SEA is mandatory in the European Union and is applied to water management in France. Water management in Brazil is inspired by the French model, but does not have SEA; in the state of São Paulo watersheds of interest for public supply have s…

  • Practitioners’ perceptions of the Brazilian environmental impact assessment system: Results from a survey

Carla Grigoletto Duarte, Ana Paula Alves Dibo et al.•ARTICLE•Impact Assessment and Project…•2017

Practitioners play a key role in implementing environmental impact assessment (EIA) policies. Gauging their perception can help in designing legislation or regulation reforms and signals what needs more attention in research. The Brazilian EIA system is under review by lawmakers, but there is scant information about the views of professionals. A survey was conducted to inquiry on practitioners' perception of the Brazilian EIA system regarding: (1…

  • Project-level environmental impact assessment effectiveness: Examining indicators from competent authorities' accountability reports

Open Access•Carla Grigoletto Duarte, Ana Paula Alves Dibo et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Impact Assessment…•2007

Competent authorities are increasingly expected to report publicly on the effectiveness of project-level Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) as part of broader accountability obligations. In many jurisdictions, this expectation is reflected in accountability reports that summarise activities, performance information, indicators, and targets. Yet no previous study has systematically examined such reports as a primary object of analysis. In this …
