  • From seedling to arganiculture

Sara Mokeddem, Zohra Benaouf et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

This study examines the germination and growth of Argania spinosa (L.) Skeels in El-Keurt, part of the Beni Chougran mountains, Mascara, north-western Algeria. Seeds were soaked for four days, then stratified on wet sand from three origins. Germination was tested at 20 °C, 25 °C, and 30 °C in a greenhouse. The highest rate (93%) was at 25 °C for Stidia, versus 86% for Oggaz. At 104 months, 72.5% of plants survived, with a mean diameter of 6.5 ± 2…

  • Potential regions for Argan tree plantations in Algeria using MaxEnt bioclimatic modelling

Kada Djebbouri, Réda Kechairi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

The present study models potential regions for Argan tree plantations in Algeria using the MaxEnt approach, taking into account the sites of successful plantations at national level. There has been exhaustive sampling of 45 sites of plantations, with results collected over three years, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Current climate data were used from the Worldclim database (version 2.0). The results obtained indicate that the north-western regions of the …

  • Diachronic study (2000-2019) of bioclimate and land use in Tlemcen region, Northwest Algeria

Amina Siba, Rédda Aboura et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

This paper reports a study of bioclimatic dynamics and land use in the region of Tlemcen (north-west of Algeria). GIS (geographic information system) and satellite images (LandSat) were used to conduct a diachronic study based on a series of satellite images from the years 2000 and 2019 to demonstrate changes in the study area while highlighting the importance of environmental conditions, including climate and anthropogenic impact on dynamic vege…

  • Effect of seasonal and regional variations on the physio-biochemical parameters of Artemisia campestris (L.) in arid and semi-arid regions of Algeria

Slimane Ahmed Benmchih Ayada, Cherifa Chaouia et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

Seasonal and regional variations in biochemical and physiological parameters of Artemisia campestris (L.) were investigated. The quantification of proline by the formation of a coloured complex was done by coupling proline with ninhydrin. The determination of soluble sugars and the extraction of chlorophyll from the leaves were carried out. The seasonal average leaf proline concentration of plants from the arid region was higher than that from th…

  • Argan tree cultivation in Algerian desert Sahara (case of Adrar Province)

Mohammed Ould Safi, Réda Kechairi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

The morphological characteristics of the Argan tree Argania spinosa (L.) Skeels planted in the Adrar province (Sahara Desert, Algeria) in 2010 on 0.7 hectares at the Forest Experiment Station show good domestication ability. After 12 years, the recorded success rate was 20.56%. Principal Correspondence Analysis of morphological variables demonstrated five groups of 23 subjects of Argan trees. Two more sites were planted in 2016 and 2018. Success …

  • Impact of mechanical and chemical weeding on the floristic diversity of citrus orchards in Tlemcen (Northwestern Algeria)

Soumia Chemouri, Mustapha Ainad Tabet et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

This study was conducted to evaluate the impact of weeding (chemical, mechanical and control) on the floristic composition of citrus orchards in the region of Tlemcen (Northwestern Algeria). A comparative approach between two methods of weeding (mechanical vs. chemical) compared to a control (without weeding) was carried out at 3 stations of 100 m2 inside the citrus orchard studied. The floristic surveys were performed in the stations at differen…

  • Comportement des plants d’Arganier ( Argania spinosa L. Skeels, Sapotaceae) au sud-ouest Algérien (Tindouf, Bechar et Adrar)

Réda Kechairi, Benamar Benmahioul•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Réda Kechairi, Mohammed Ould Safi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

The paper aims to quantify the difficulties in the transplantation and development of argan tree in the Algerian Western Sahara. A diagnosis of the regeneration by reforestation was established on two experimental stations: Tindouf and Adrar, during six consecutive years. The relation between the bioclimatic conditions and the rates of resumption, the phenology and the growth of Argania spinosa were analysed. The results showed the possibilities …

  • État des lieux cartographiques de l’arganier Argania spinosa (L.) Skeels (Sapotaceae) en Afrique Nord-Occidentale (Algérie et Sahara Occidental)

Réda Kechairi, Fatiha Abdoun•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

Occurring in a limited biogeographical region in North Western Africa, the Argan tree Argania spinosa (L.) Skeels grows in extreme ecological conditions. The aim of the present work is mapping the natural extension of the species in Tindouf (Algeria) and in the Western Sahara. Our work adopts cartographic processing by GIS (Geographic Information System). To delimit the natural distribution of the species in Tindouf in Algeria, we localized argan…
