  • Developmental, behavioural and biochemical markers of anthracene and Pb +2 exposure to zebrafish eleutheroembryos

Abdelfettah Gherib, Inês Domingues•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

This study aims to assess the toxicity of lead Pb+2 and anthracene in zebrafish (Danio rerio) eleutheroembryos survival, development, behaviour and neurotoxicity. Fish-embryo toxicity (FET) tests were conducted according to the OECD guideline TG 236. The video tracking system Zebrabox® was used to evaluate the effects of these chemicals on 120 hours post fecundation (hpf) larvae behaviour. Data showed that both chemicals have a moderate toxic eff…

  • Performance assessment of hybrid constructed wetlands planted with different macrophytes for industrial wastewater treatment

Yazid Bedouh, Doha Chihoub et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023

The aim of this study was to assess the performance of a laboratory-scale Hybrid Constructed Wetland (HCW) for industrial wastewater treatment planted with different macrophytes at different hydraulic retention times (HRT). The results revealed that the HCW planted with Phragmites australis and Lemna minor (PA/LMs), and the HCW planted with Typha latifolia and Lemna minor (TL/LMs) were able to improve the physicochemical proprieties of industrial…

  • Biomonitoring of metallic pollution in the coast of Jijel (Algeria) by using algological biomarkers

Abdelfettah Gherib, Azzeddine Bounamous et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

The paper reports the biomonitoring of metallic pollution generated by Jijel city and the port of Bouddis on the coast of Jijel (Algeria) using algological species algae [C. officinalis (Linnaeus, 1758) and Ulva lactuca (Linnaeus, 1753)] as bioindicators and biomarkers, which indicated heavy metal concentrations well above international standards (USEPA) and (IAEA-392), indicating unexpected levels of metals in seawater. The bioconcentration fact…

  • Physiological and biochemical markers in the process of resistance and/or tolerance of heavy metals in the abandoned mining area of Sidi Kamber, Skikda, Algeria

Abdelfettah Gherib, Hind Djebaili et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

This paper reports the biomonitoring of metallic pollution in the mine of Sidi Kamber Skikda town, to determine the resistance and/or tolerance to Zn, Pb, Cd and Cu in metalliferous plants. During the period of March–May, 2015, soil and plants samples were collected from three different stations in the study area. The total heavy metal fraction was determined by ICP/MS, whereas biochemical markers were determined by spectrophotometric techniques.…

  • Assessment and biomonitoring of aquatic pollution by heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb and Zn) in Hammam Grouz Dam of Mila (Algeria)

Azzeddine Aissaoui, Djamila Sadoudi-Ali Ahmed et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

Concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb and Zn were determined in water, sediment and tissues of fish (Cyprinus carpio and Barbus setivimensis) from November 2014 to August 2015, in order to estimate the aquatic pollution in Hammam Grouz dam, by the technique of atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The concentrations of heavy metals in the water and sediment were higher than the WHO standards. The calculation of Bioconcentration factor showed that all f…

  • Biomonitoring of maritime pollution by heavy metals (Pb and Zn) in the coast of Jijel (Algeria)

Abdelfettah Gherib, Yazid Bedouh et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

This paper reports a study of pollution in the coastal waters of Jijel, Algeria, using algae Ulva lactuca and Corallina officinalis as bioindicators. Samples of seawater and algae were collected at four different stations from the coast of Jijel, during the period of April–June 2014. The heavy metal content (Pb and Zn) was determined in seawater and in the algae tissue by the technique of atomic absorption spectrophotometry. In seawater, the cont…
