Programming Perceptions and Computer Literacy of Students Enrølled in Computer-Related Curricula
A survey of 543 freshmen and 425 juniors in computer and electrical engineering (CEE), electrical engineering (EE), industrial engineering (IE), computer science (CS), information systems (IS), and computer technology (CPT) was given. Information sought focused on their self-perceptions of difficulty with, interest in, and ability to do eight separate tasks associated with computer programming. Self-perceptions of computer literacy, knowledge, an…
A Conceptual Approach to Development and Validation of Hierarchical Acquisition in Psychomotor Performance
A hierarchical model for the sequencing of psychomotor skills acquisition is proposed. The model is based on transfer of performance methodology. A series of the experimental studies investigate the viability of a hierarchical model for two levels of difficulties for tasks identifiable with the Control Precision and Rate Control factors. The results are inconclusive regarding the concept of a hierarchical earning for psychomotor skills. The resul…
The Development and Validation of an Objective Method for Quantifying Hyperactivity in Children
It has been estimated that about 10% of all boys aged six to twelve years are hyperactive. Often, hyperactivity is associated with learning disabilities. Despite the apparent magnitude of this problem, no valid objective and reliable measures are available to quantify hyperactivity in children. This study discusses how objective measures, using sinus arrhythmia and force platform scores were developed and validated on 30 boys (15 hyperactive and …
Effects of Different Modes of Feedback on the Acquisition and Retention of Psychomotor Skills
An optimum feedback strategy is established for the acquisition and retention of psychomotor skills. A hierarchy of the effectiveness of 18 different feedbacks is established by utilizing 180 male college students divided randomly into 18 groups. The task consists of depressing a bar with a stylus (with a force of 1.3 to 1.7 lb.). The results indicate that: (1) Gradual reduction in feedback is superior to an abrupt halt to feedback for the retent…
