  • Lighting Effects on Interior Visual Environment

TADASHI KIKUCHI, TENJI WAKE et al.•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•1979

Effects of illumination upon the comfortableness of visual environment of a miniature-living room were examined under various lighting conditions, using the semantic differential method. Three components were extracted by principal components analysis. The first component, activity, was entirely affected by illuminance. The second, elegance, was related to illuminance and color temperature. Color temperature was practically responsible for the th…

  • Phenomenon of Disappearance of a Fleck

    TENJI WAKE•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•1968

The phenomenon of disappearnace of a fleck in the presence of other visual objects was investigated. A stimulus pattern (a fleck and two rectangles) similar to that showed by Metzger (1936) were used. The threshold for the fleck was measured with varying luminance ratio of the fleck to its background. There was found an optimal width of the rectangles for disappearance of the fleck in each experimental condition. The optimal width varied across t…

  • The Effect of Separation and Overlap Between the Disk and the Ring Upon the Contour Effect

    TENJI WAKE•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•1967

The present experiments were concerned with the contour effect. The disk and the ring were provided by a black paper on a white background. They were so arranged as to be a concentric circle. CPT was measured by varying pause between the disk and the ring. Results were as follows: 1. CPT decreases with the increase of width of the ring. 2. The spatial relationships between the disk and the ring are important in the contour effect. 3. There is an …

  • Visual Effect of the Ring Upon Critical Pause Threshold of the Disk in Disk-Ring Sequence

    TENJI WAKE•ARTICLE•Japanese Psychological Research•1965

The present study was designed to investigate on the so-called contour effect. A disk as the first figure and a ring as the second figure were so arranged as to be a concentric circle. Each figure was provided by an achromatic paper on a white cardbord. In the experiments reported here, it was examined whether the effect of duration of the ring, width of the ring and brightness-difference between both figures and their backgrounds upon CPT is to …
