The present study was designed to investigate on the so-called contour effect. A disk as the first figure and a ring as the second figure were so arranged as to be a concentric circle. Each figure was provided by an achromatic paper on a white cardbord. In the experiments reported here, it was examined whether the effect of duration of the ring, width of the ring and brightness-difference between both figures and their backgrounds upon CPT is to be found. The following results were found: (a) There is an optimal duration of the ring upon CPT. (b) If durations of the disk and ring are equal, CPT increases with the decrease of durations. (c) CPT increases, as brightness-difference between the ring and its background exceeded that between the disk and its background. (d) The more width of the ring increases, the more CPT decreases
