Transformation Abilities
Confirmatory factor analysis was used to reanalyze correlational data from selected test variables in Guilford's Aptitudes Research Project (Hoepfner, Guilford, and Bradley, 1968). Results indicated that Guilford's model does serve to reproduce more closely the original correlation matrix than does either a no factor (null) model, a random factor model, or a single (general) factor model. Further, most of Guilford's tests exhibited high loadings …
Significance Testing and Efficiency in Lisrel Measurement Models
Traditionally, LISREL confirmatory factor analytic measurement models are tested against a null model of total independence. Using randomly generated factors in a matrix of 46 aptitude tests, this investigation has shown that this approach is unlikely to reject even random factors. An alternative null model, based on a single general factor, is suggested. In addition, an index of model efficiency is introduced as a helpful adjunct to contemporary…
The Construct Validity of Higher Order Structure-of-Intellect Factors Reflecting Semantic and Symbolic Content Abilities
Based on reanalyses of correlational data obtained from the University of Southern California Aptitudes Research Project, this investigation examined the extent to which two higher order (third-order) factors of semantic content and symbolic content from Guilford's structure-of-intellect (SOI) model reflected distinct constructs. A confirmatory maximum-likelihood factor analysis of 18 SOI tests from a battery of 46 SOT tests which previously had …
The Construct Validity of Higher Order Structure-of-Intellect Abilities in a Battery of Tests Emphasizing the Product of Transformations
Within the context of a causal modeling system involving use of Joreskog's confirmatory maximum likelihood factor analysis in conjunction with the LISREL IV computer program devised by Joreskog and Sorbom an evaluation was made of the construct validity underlying the higher order factor structure of a given correlation matrix of 46 structure-of-intellect (SOI) tests emphasizing the product of transformations. The tenability of four alternative f…
