Attitudes to in vitro meat: A survey of potential consumers in the United States
Positivity towards meat consumption remains strong, despite evidence of negative environmental and ethical outcomes. Although awareness of these repercussions is rising, there is still public resistance to removing meat from our diets. One potential method to alleviate these effects is to produce in vitro meat: meat grown in a laboratory that does not carry the same environmental or ethical concerns. However, there is limited research examining p…

The prevalence of companion animal caregiving was estimated, and demographic and psychosocial factors that predict sterilization behaviors in caregivers in Thailand were identified. Thai nationals ( n = 494) were recruited by random for the Culture and Human-Animal Interactions ( chai ) telephone survey. The results showed 74% of respondents had a cat and/or a dog (60% dogs, 23% cats); 22% of dogs and 19% of cats were sterilized. Logistic Regress…

Australian respondents were more concerned about the husbandry conditions for keeping wild animals in zoos a…
The Role of Gender in Public Perception of Whether Animals Can Experience Grief and Other Emotions
Gender plays a significant role in influencing people's attitudes toward animals, however, little is known about how it influences their attribution of emotions to animals. To investigate the role that gender plays in public attitudes toward animals' experience of emotions and beliefs about whether animals can grieve, a face-to-face survey of 1,000 members of the general public was carried out in Brisbane, Australia. Potential respondents were as…

Euthanasia in Aged Horses: Relationship between the Owner's Personality and Their Opinions on, and Experience of, Euthanasia of Horses
The human–horse bond is powerful and unique and strengthened with years of ownership. Yet, in aged horses, the decision for euthanasia will be faced at some time by most horse owners. We hypothesized that euthanasia is a difficult and distressing decision for most horse owners, and that the decision will be influenced by the owners' personality, difficulty of euthanasia decision, and experiences of euthanasia, as well as external factors. Horse o…
