  • Measuring the competitive communicative constitution of insurgencies and their opponents

Kyle M Schwing, Jason Spitaletta et al.•ARTICLE•Dynamics of Asymmetric Conflict•2023•References: 19

We introduce a method to measure the socially constituted strength of an insurgency and its state opponent as they compete for recognition as a governing body, based upon the four flows theory of the communicative constitution of organizations. We validate our method using a RAND data set of 30 recently concluded insurgencies, and find that our method not only predicts the ultimate victor in all 30 conflicts, but also refines previous analyses of…

  • A mathematical interpretation of the communicative constitution of organizations

Kyle M Schwing, Jason Spitaletta et al.•ARTICLE•Dynamics of Asymmetric Conflict•2021•References: 10

We propose a probabilistic control-system model to measure gradations of organizational coherence. Our model expresses the four flows of the Communicative Constitution of Organizations, and moves beyond common network-based analyses to quantify the emergence of organization through communication. In the model, an organization’s leadership selects from a set of discrete strategies, the number and complexity of which are regulated by membership neg…

  • Teaching Decision Making With Serious Games

    Open Access•Rebecca E Rhodes, Rebecca Rhodes et al.•ARTICLE•Games and Culture•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 22

Game-based training may have different characteristics than other forms of instruction. The independent validation of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) Sirius program evaluated game-based cognitive bias training across several games with a common set of control groups. Control groups included a professionally produced video that taught the same cognitive biases and an unrelated video that did not teach any biases. Knowl…
