This paper investigates the effect of anger emotion embedded in online reviews on perceived helpfulness in the hotel industry. Utilising Las Vegas hotel reviews data collected from TripAdvisor.com as well as a laboratory experiment, we first show anger emotion extracted using Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) and a Large Language Model (LLM) positively influence hotel review helpfulness.
