AI ethics is an essential aspect of students’ AI competency framework. However, research has shown it is difficult for educators to incorporate ethical learning into the AI curriculum. Therefore, our systematic review aims to present an overview of current research on AI ethics education. A total of 89 articles from 2011 to 2024 were investigated from both research (i.e., sources, publication years, geographical areas, learners’ stages, and research methods) and instruction (i.e., topics, theories, tools, learning outcomes, assessment instruments, analysis methods) perspectives. Additionally, this study identified teacher-level and policy-level challenges encountered in ethics-integrated AI curricula, along with four potential areas for future research. Overall, this systematic review provides actionable insights into pedagogical design and maps pathways for advancing research in AI ethics education
