Theory of Protective Factors of Monogamy
This study evaluated the effectiveness of a game-based learning intervention, “Rolling the Dice,” in teaching counseling students ( N = 50) the protective factors of monogamy theory (PFMT) and circular questioning techniques. Using a pre-post design, results showed significant improvement in overall understanding ( p = .003, d = 0.444), with participants achieving mastery in monogamy maintenance concepts and behavioral boundaries. However, decrea…
Beyond Individual Diagnosis
This study examined the impact of cross-level simulated learning experiences (SLEs) on graduate Clinical Mental Health Counseling and undergraduate psychology students. The cases used in the SLE were with identified clients and family members. Using a pre–post design, researchers measured changes in self-efficacy, perceptions of simulation, and interprofessional attitudes. Results showed significant improvements in self-efficacy, including proble…
Validating the Protective Factors of Monogamy Theory
Monogamy or fidelity is a common relationship structure and can be traumatic when violated. The Protective Factors of Monogamy Theory was presented in previous research to explain how people successfully maintain monogamy. The purpose of this study was to determine the strength of the relationship between the factors. A total of 35 components were extracted and accounted for 84% of the variance explained with a reliability score of .941
Marital Satisfaction During Retirement
Marriage/commitment and retirement are two common experiences in an adult’s life. Marital satisfaction and retirement have been researched in multiple disciplines. The relationship between these two constructs has not been as widely researched. The purpose of this study was to determine whether retirement has an impact on marital satisfaction. Quantitative methods and analyses were used. The variables used accounted for 83% of the variance of sat…
A Training Case of the Theory of Protective Factors of Monogamy
Practicing monogamy to avoid infidelity is a common relationship dynamic and expectation. Even so, few people are taught monogamy strategies. Instead, they might just receive the message of “Just don’t do it.” This article is training and pedagogically based and is intended to help educators and supervisors integrate the theory of protective factors of monogamy with their marriage/couple and family curriculum. A brief review of the theory is pres…
