Ethnographic cognitive interviewing and online incident reports document the specific experi…

Counselor education faculty from programs in school counseling accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) in school were surveyed and found to have substantial involvement in activities relevant to K-12 education
Current Practices of Counseling Psychology Faculty in K-12 Schools: A National Survey
Given the debates about the identity and future of counseling psychology programs in colleges of education and given the growing national crisis in K-12 education, this study examined the involvement of counseling psychology faculty in school-related issues. Full-time faculty from APA-accredited counseling psychology programs were surveyed about the extent of their involvement in K-12-related teaching, research, service, policy, and program devel…
Counseling Psychology and the Scientist-Practitioner Model: Implementation and Implications
The ways in which the scientist-practitioner model has been implemented in the admissions and training processes of psychology programs are examined. Institutional pressures on counseling psychology faculty have led to admissions procedures that are highly biased in favor of science. Not only have most training programs failed to provide the clinical training desired and needed by practitioners, but even the most scientifically oriented programs …

That therapists' expectancies are related to counseling process and outcome has been demonstrated in several studies spanning two decades of research. To facilitate the comparability of data and encourage further research, an instrument to measure therapists' expectancies was developed. A total of 1403 clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, and counselors completed an inventory designed to assess therapists' diagnostic, prognostic, and …

This article describes a framework for the effective supervision and systematic evaluation of practicum skills. The practicum format has been developed with the intent of applying competency-based evaluation methods to practicum and promoting self-critique skills among counselor trainees. An Integrative Competency-Based Counselor Education Model
In the proposed integrative competence-based counselor education model, the four major areas of counselor training are defined as theory education, skills training, experiential activity, and practicum experience. For each area we suggest specific objectives, possible courses, appropriate methodologies, and directions for evaluation. The formulation of behavioral curriculum goals and the construction of performance criteria for each aspect of the…
