  • The Structure of the Spatial Theory of Elections

    W Balzer, Volker Dreier•ARTICLE•The British Journal for the…•1999•References: 22

The net structure of the spatial theory of elections is investigated and described in the format of structuralism. Three new kinds of intertheoretical relations typical for social theory are identified and defined. The historical development of spatial theory as expressed by specializations and other intertheoretic relations is found to be in a sense 'inverse' to that of theories in the natural sciences. The development begins with a 'most specia…

  • A static theory of reference in science

Open Access•W Balzer, Bernhard Lauth et al.•ARTICLE•Synthese•1989•Cited by: 1•References: 10

  • Structure and Comparison of Genetic Theories: (2) The Reduction of Character-Factor Genetics to Molecular Genetics

    W Balzer, C M Dawe•ARTICLE•The British Journal for the…•1986•Cited by: 2•References: 1

The present paper has two aims. First, we reconstruct the core of molecular genetics (MOLGEN) i.e. the array of theoretical assumptions which underly all or most applications of molecular genetics. Second, we define a reduction relation p reducing character-factor genetics (CFG) to MOLGEN. That p is a reduction relation is proved by establishing that p satisfies the two major conditions which are discussed in the literature as necessary or ‘essen…
