GWAS of 165,084 Japanese individuals identified nine loci associated with dietary habits
GWAS of smoking behaviour in 165,436 Japanese people reveals seven new loci and shared genetic architecture
Upper limit of fat‐free mass in humans
If limitations exist in skeletal dimensions, fat‐free mass (FFM) might have an upper limit. To explore the upper limit to FFM, 37 professional Japanese Sumo wrestlers, 14 highly trained bodybuilders, and 26 untrained men were investigated for body composition (fat mass and FFM) and cross‐sectional areas (CSA) of limb muscles, by hydrodensitometry and ultrasound, respectively. Mean % fat of Sumo wrestlers, bodybuilders, and untrained subjects were…
The limb composition in the growing generation
The Muscle Strength of Japanese Children in Relation to Relative Growth
The pourpose of this study was to investigate the ralative growth of muscle strength to body height as well as muscle area. Subjects were 141 boys and 130 girls from 6 to 19 years old. Maximum isometric strengths of flexion and extension at elbow and knee were measured by using Cybex II isokinetic dynamometer. Cross-sectional areas of the flexor and the extensor muscles in upper arm as well as thigh were measured by using ultrasonic apparatus. Mu…
