  • Retour aux sources de la « troisième vague »

    David Copello•ARTICLE•Revue française de science…•2026

While increasing online hostility towards elected officials has become a growing cause for public concern, our empirical understanding of the nature and scale of the phenomenon remains incomplete. This study analyzes online violence against French Members of Parliament (MPs) on Twitter (X), based on 4.5 million tweets targeting MPs between 2022 and 2023. Three bespoke classification models distinguish personal attacks, political criticism, and su…

  • The ‘invention’ of human rights as a revolutionary concept

    David Copello•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Rights•2021•Cited by: 2•References: 2

Studies on the global history of human rights often identify the use of this concept as a recent trend in contemporary ideologies, linked to the decline of revolutionary movements in the Western world after the 1960s. This framing, however, tends to overlook phenomena of hybridization between revolutionary prospects and appeals to human rights in actual social movements and intellectual debates. This article focuses on the case of Argentine mobil…

  • Mapping the Argentine New Left

    Open Access•David Copello•ARTICLE•Latin American Perspectives•2020•References: 13

In recent years, investigation on 1960s/1970s revolutionary activism in Argentina has led to the publication of multiple case studies. Building on this literature, a more general view of what is often called the "new left" indicates that it is characterized by the importance assigned to three issues: social liberation, national liberation, and revolutionary violence. Two differentiating lines within this political space are an ideological divide …

  • Jacques Vergès, Rupture Strategy and the Argentinean New Left

    David Copello•ARTICLE•Global Society•2019•Cited by: 4

This article deals with the transatlantic circulations of the theory of "rupture strategy", popularised by French lawyer Jacques Vergès in the early 1960s. In the early 1970s, the concept was imported and adapted to the Argentinean context by radical left-wing lawyers. Their uses of rupture strategy were modelled by their perception of Argentina as being a "semi-colonised" country, whose situation was comparable to that of Algeria. In the 1980s h…

    David Copello•ARTICLE•Revue française de science…•2019•Cited by: 2

    Open Access•David Copello•ARTICLE•Nuevo mundo mundos nuevos•2018•References: 7
